~YAEL ~

He kissed her softly on her skin and she laughed. Turning around, she faced him and wrapped her arms around his neck. He smiled as he lifted her off her feet to place them over his, and like this, they danced.

"I love you, Yael," Duncan said.

"I love you too."

"I felt something the moment I met you. I know it sounds sappy, but it's true. I want to make you a happy woman. I will do anything in my power to give you all that you deserve."

"I give up love long ago when boyfriend cheat. But now, I will open heart again."

"I know I haven't been very vocal about what you've been dealing with. But I do care about your thoughts and feelings. I know it may not seem like it, but I want you to hear this. You're the only woman I love now."

"I'm sorry," Yael said. "I think too much. I just - "

"I know," he said. "I know about how everything that happens in your life just reminds you that you're not the first choice, but I need you to understand that you are my first choice."

"Only because she is dead."

"No, Yael," Duncan said. "I would choose you even if she were alive."

"Really?"

"Yes," he said. "I did love Maya, and I often came close to losing her. But I never lost control like I did when I came close to losing you. That told me a lot. I fear losing you more than anything. If I lose you, I lose myself."

"Then why visit grave?"

"How can you expect me to forget about those years she spent saving me? She might no longer be my lover, but she was still someone who did a lot for me. I can't bring myself to neglect her grave. All I want to do is leave her a rose, and if it makes you happy, I will no longer visit her grave after this month ends."

"Okay," Yael said finally. "I understand."

"Thank you so much," Duncan said, the both of them still swaying to silent music.

"So I am first choice?" Yael asked. But Duncan removed her feet from his. He put some distance between them and her heart sank.

But he fell to his knees and removed a box from his pocket. He opened it, and a diamond ring shone inside. She covered her mouth.

"I know we've only known for a year," he said. "But in this year, I've learnt that I am stronger than my past. You've taught me to overcome my pain and taught me happiness again. I can't imagine life without you, so would you please do me the honour of vowing the rest of your life to me?"

She cried. "Yes!"
