After everyone's classes, they gathered at the park to discuss the rules. It was a meeting that Sam and Mindy had arranged.
Elijah heard from Sam and Tara what happened to them last night. How they got attacked by Ghostface on their way to the police station. They even saw Kirby Reed working for them as the FBI to help with their case.
That one caught him by major surprise.
They even ran into Gale Weathers on their way out, still acting like her same old self. Elijah was glad that Naomi wasn't there. He knew how complicated their relationship was.
It sounded like Sam and Tara had a crazy time over at the police station.
To make matters worse, Sam and Naomi's therapist just got killed. They heard that from the news.
"Okay, nerds, listen up," Mindy announced, standing in front of the group. "As terrifying as this all is, I'm actually glad I get a chance to redeem myself for not calling the killers last time," Then she muttered as if to convince herself. "It's fine."
Elijah wrapped an arm around Quinn's shoulders as they sat on the bench together.
"Okay, the way I see it, someone is out to make a sequel to the requel." Mindy theorized.
"Um, what's a requel?" Anika asked, raising a hand.
"You're beautiful, sweetie. Let's hold questions till the end." She told her girlfriend.
Anika tilted her head, smiling.
"Stab 1 took place in Woodsboro." Sam stated.
"Stab 2 took place in college." Naomi recalled.
"I'm sensing a pattern here." Oliver noticed.
"So, we think that the killer's trying to copy the movies?" Tara glanced at her sister then at Mindy.
"That is one possibility, heroes now in college. Check. Suspicious new characters brought in to round out the suspect list and or body count. Check, check, and check." Mindy listed.
"I don't like this." Ethan said uncomfortably.
"It'll be okay, sweetie." Lucy comforted him, kissing his cheek.
"It can't just be about Stab 2." Mindy smirked.
"Why not?" Tara questioned.
"It would make sense if this were just a sequel. But, we're not in a sequel, because nobody just makes sequels anymore. We're in a franchise!" Mindy smiled. "And there are certain rules to a continuing franchise."
"Of course there is..." Elijah groaned.
"I had a feeling." Sam muttered, hanging her head down.
"Here we go..." Gabrielle told Chad under her breath, remembering what their meeting was like from last year.
"Rule one: Everything is bigger than last time. Bigger budget, bigger cast, bigger body count, longer chases, shoot outs, beheadings. You gotta top what came before to keep people coming back." Mindy explained.
"Beheadings?" Chad asked, looking up from his notes.
"Beheadings," She confirmed. "Rule two: Whatever happened last time expect the opposite. Franchises only survive by subverting expectations. If the killers last time were whiny, snowflake film nerds with letterboxed accounts instead of personalities, you can bet the opposite will be true here."
"That was so Richie." Lucy laughed at the description of the previous killers.
From the corner of his eyes, Elijah saw the slight glare Quinn gave to her.
