Although it's been five days since my supposed "study session date", I still can't wrap my head around the situation. That evening Kaden brought out a different version of himself and I was living for it.
Today I have a chill day ahead of myself - or at least I'm gaslighting myself into it. Finals are in two days, but I have decided to put the stress behind an invisible wall inside my head because today Kaden has an important boxing match. He said he almost stepped out of it, but he's more than ready now.
The thought of watching Kaden fight in the ring erupts butterflies in my stomach. The last time I saw him there, I was both terrified and confused, but now it's different. He did say this is an underground hobby, but he is thinking about making it into a career and I don't know whether I should be supportive or scared that my boyfriend may come home with a bloody nose every month.
He told me he will be at the local gym with Lucas and Kai, which I wasn't surprised by. Apparently Kai was his training buddy and that would explain why he'd sometimes have bruises on his face. My brother ended up apologizing to both of us for overreacting at the bonfire, so I guess we are okay now.
Speaking of him, I can see Kai's name pop up on my phone screen, which is pressed against my laptop, while I'm busy watching Euphoria and straightening my hair. I sigh, put the tv show on pause and answer his FaceTime call.
"Hey, am I interrupting?" he asks when I pick up with a hair brush in my hand.
"I will be nice and say no. What's up?" I continue to straighten my front strands with a bobby pin resting between my teeth.
"Uh, your boyfriend seems to be quite tense." He chokes at the word boyfriend. "Wanna come down to the gym?" I look over to my phone to see Kaden throwing Lucas to the ground.
"I can be there in fifteen," I say before hanging up and letting the show resume playing.
Kaden has told me he usually needs to blow off some steam before a match, but I didn't think Lucas would've been the poor victim this time.
Hurrying up, I slip into black shorts and pull a pink top over my head. Locking the door behind me, I head out to the gym. I look around for the empty studio room where punching bags are usually hung up. Stepping inside I can already hear laughing coming from a guy.
"Nora will be mad if you hurt Lilly," Kaden chuckles as he towers over Lucas who's trying to fight him off from the ground. "Then I will beat you up for her, you got that?" He throws a punch right to Lucas' left hip.
"Fuck, I understand," the man on the floor yelps in laughter. "Get off me, you freak."
I close the wooden door behind me and I'm met with three pairs of eyes. First I interlock eyes with Kaden who's smiling at me with his mouthguard almost falling out, then with Lucas whose eyes are screaming 'get your boyfriend off of me', and lastly with Kai, who's just wearing a neutral expression.
Kaden loses his grip for a second and Lucas slides away from his hold. His eyes move from Kai to me. He gets up and makes his way over to me. Messy hair, sweat glistening on his chest and biceps bigger than my head.
"Hey Kings." He spits out his mouthguard before placing a sweaty kiss on top of my forehead. "What are you doing here?" He smiles down at me.
