BROOKLYN had always loved the sound of rain tapping against the windows. It reminded her of a secret melody that soothed her soul. But today, it was just background noise to the storm brewing in her mind. Her thoughts swirled like the droplets outside, each one heavier than the last. She stared at the half-empty coffee cup in her hand, the warmth long gone.

"What are you doing here?" she blurted out, the question hanging in the air as her friends spilled into the room. The sudden burst of energy and chatter was a stark contrast to the introspective silence she'd been steeped in.

"Homecoming," Emily exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement. "You forgot, didn't you?"

Brooklyn's gaze remained on the coffee cup. "I didn't forget," she said quietly. "I'm just not going."

Spencer's face fell. "You're joking right?"

Emily's eyes searched hers, understanding dawning. "What are you gonna do?"

Brooklyn took a deep breath and shrugged. "Well, I'll read all of this," she said, gesturing to the towering stack of magazines on her nightstand. "And then I'll sleep. Maybe eat some ice cream." A smile ghosted across her lips as she spoke, hinting at the familiar comfort of her words.

Spencer stepped closer, placing a hand on her shoulder. " It will work out"

The conversation grew quieter as the reality of the situation settled in. They had all been looking forward to homecoming, a chance to let loose and escape the everyday pressures of school and life. But now, their plans were in limbo, and the weight of Brooklyn's revelation seemed to press down on them like the rain outside.

"If you're not coming," Hanna began, a playful smile tugging at the corners of her mouth, "can you at least vote for me as prom queen?"

The room erupted in laughter, the tension briefly dissipating. All the girls knew Hanna was the obvious choice; she had the charm, the looks, and the popularity that seemed to come so naturally to her. "What i need her vote"

There was a time when Alison was every year voted prom queen. And as Hanna continued to be let down year after year, her level of insecurity elevated.Brooklyn was constantly making an effort to improve Hanna's perception of her.So Brooklyn will give Hanna more than one voting ticket if required.

Brooklyn looked up, the fog in her eyes lifting for a moment. "You already got my vote, Hanna," she said, her voice a mix of affection and resignation.

"So, Em," Spencer said, redirecting the conversation. "Who are you bringing to the dance?"

Emily's cheeks flushed a soft pink, and she avoided eye contact. "Well, I was thinking of going solo this year."Emily's current break up with her first boyfriend was Ben.But girls weren't big fan of him.The main reason was that, despite the fact that it was not true,he spread some idiotic rumors about them sleeping together.Ever since, Emily had not been seeing anyone.
