Chapter 1

Hot shot is five years old. He lives in Fort Worth Texas with his parents Heatwave and Quickshadow. Hot shot loves to run, jump, climb and play. He is very active little boy. He loves to do sports. He loves to be with his family. He is a very kind and caring young boy.

His father Heatwave works as a firefighter. He is very brave and strong. He does well at his job as a firefighter. He was loving and loyal husband and father. He was good to his wife and loved her with all of his heart. He loved his son very much too. He did what he could to teach Hot shot right from wrong. He helped Hot shot learn about fire safety and how and when to dial 911. Hot shot was very smart and listened very carefully.

His mother Quickshadow works as a pediatric oncologist at Cook Children's hospital. She is very good at her job. She is very caring towards her patients. She is very helpful with her fellow doctors and nurses. She is a very loving and caring wife and mother. She is very good to her husband and loves him with all of her heart. She loves her son dearly. She often didn't worry too much when Hot shot got a little bump or bruise or scrape. Hot shot was normally fine afterwards and it healed when it should. But she did often worry. She knew with her line of work that it can happen to any child even her own. Even if one of her coworkers told her she was worrying over nothing.

There were many other members of the family too. There were Hot shot's grandparents on both sides. His father's parents who he calls Pawpaw and Granny lived in San Antonio. While his mother parent's he calls Grandad and Grandmum lived in London England. Hot shot also had an uncle and aunt on his father's side who were his father's sister and brother in law with three cousins. He also had an uncle on his mother's side who was his mother's twin brother. He also had other cousins too who were his parents cousins.

There were also good family friends, Blades, Boulder and Chase. They were Heatwave's best friends and were like brothers to him. So Hot shot called them his uncles out of affection. They were very good friends with the family. These three friends always visited on special occasions. They were very welcome in their home and with the family. 

Hot shot has always been very happy active and healthy. He never been seriously hurt or sick. He has just been an all around happy and healthy child. He loved his parents very much. He loved to play and have fun. He liked to do many things. He was also a very well behaved child too.

Life was good for this family. They were very happy and pleased with their lives. They were hoping life was going to continue going well for them. They felt like at times things would never go wrong to say the least.

However in a heartbeat things can change easily. Because life is unexpected and things can either make a good change or a bad change. It depends on a lot of things. But this change was going to be a hard one and it was going to take a lot to get through it.

It was December and Hot shot noticed he wasn't feeling well as of late. His left ankle was hurting a lot. It was very painful. He was finding hard to ignore. He was wondering why it was hurting so much. It was really painful and Hot shot was wondering what was wrong. 

Hot shot's left ankle had been hurting for a while. "Mummy my ankle hurts," Hot shot said coming up to his mother.

"Your ankle hurts?" Quickshadow said.

"Yes it hurts a lot," Hot shot said.

Quickshadow gave him some medicine to help. "That should help your ankle not hurt," Quickshadow said.

"Thank you," Hot shot said.

"You should feel better soon," Quickshadow told him.

"I sure hope so," Hot shot said.

After a few days Hot shot's ankle was still hurting. It was really painful. Hot shot was wondering why it was hurting so bad. He was starting to get scared. He was limping too. He was pretty much limping all the time. It seemed that he was unable to get anywhere without limping. His left ankle was so painful it was impossible not to limp.  Hot shot had also developed a fever. He was feeling very unwell.
