Chapter 3

Hot shot was still in the hospital. He had been there for a while after his cancer diagnosis. Hot shot was getting treatment for the past few days. His parents were taking turns of who will spend the night with him. His parents would sometimes come back with presents from friends and family for Hot shot. Hot shot was feeling the side effects of the chemotherapy. He got tummy aches and he felt very tired. 

Last night Hot shot saw his hair was falling out. It was falling out in clumps. The next morning when he woke up, Hot shot saw his hair had completely fallen out. What was left of his hair was all on his pillow. 

"Which should I wear first daddy?" Hot shot asked. "A bandana or a knit beanie?" he asked.

"Well how about we do a bandana first," Heatwave suggested. He helped Hot shot pick out a bandana and helped Hot shot put it on. 

Hot shot looked at himself in the mirror. "I look great," Hot shot said. 

"Look great son," Heatwave said.

Hot shot had to stay in the hospital at Christmas, but his family brought his Christmas presents to him. 

Hot shot was very happy to have his Christmas with his parents. Even in the hospital. Hot shot was hoping everything was going to be alright.

Hot shot stayed in the hospital for several weeks.  Before Hot shot knew it was January and then January turned to February. 

In February Hot shot was finally about to go home. Hot shot was so happy to be home again. He missed his old room. He was so happy to be back. He was able to relax a bit in his room too.

However Hot shot was going to have to come back to the hospital several times for more treatments, tests, and check ups.

Hot shot was able to go to hospital and come back home right after the treatment, test or check up. He also found out he was going to get a wish from make a wish.

"I want a dalmatian puppy," Hot shot said.

The Dr. Seala was okay with it. But she wanted Hot shot to be recovered from his amputation before he got his puppy. 

Hot shot was perfectly okay with that. Hot shot's big day to get his leg amputated below the knee was soon. 

On the big day. Hot shot was getting ready to go with his parents. They were busy packing Hot shot's bag. Hot shot was going to be in the hospital for a couple of weeks so they wanted to be ready for it. 

Hot shot had Roxy the rhino and was ready to go. "I'm ready," Hot shot said.

"Good, now that the bag is packed we are all ready to go too," Heatwave said.

They all got into the car and headed to the hospital. Once at the hospital Hot shot saw his friends again. Hot shot saw his friends whenever he visited the hospital. They would talk during their treatments and play together during treatments too.

"I am so happy to see you guys," Hot shot said.

"I am happy see you too," they said.

They were all ready to get their surgeries. They all played together while they waited their turns. 

Soon it was Hot shot's turn. Hot shot had all of his vitals taken. Then Hot shot had to wait in another room with his parents for his surgery. Then Hot shot was taken back when it was time for him to have his surgery.

Hot shot waved at all the doctors and nurses who were in the hall. He was happy to see all of them too. Then Hot shot was in the OR. Hot shot got to chose the scent of the air for his operation. Hot shot chose cotton candy. It smelled nice and sweet.

Then Hot shot soon fell asleep. The doctors went right work at amputating his leg below the knee. The surgery took a few hours. Then soon it was finished. Hot shot's surgery was all done. The amputation sight was nice and clean and looked great too.

Hot shot woke up in the recovery room. Hot shot felt the soreness of his lower left leg. He saw the amputation was a success. Hot shot was amazed by it. It was a bit much. But he took it like a champ.

Hot shot was doing very well after his surgery. He was happy and doing as he was told. Then after a couple of weeks he was able to return home.

Hot shot had a lot of therapy to do to help him be ready for his prosthetic when it came time to make it. Hot shot was eager to make it too. Hot shot wanted to have a running blade too, as did his friends who all got amputations like him. But running blades were very expensive was the deal and not easy to get.  Luckily for them his very wealthy uncle Murray who is, mother's twin brother was able to pay for all five running blades easily with out much worry for his own money. He was happy to cover the cost of these things for his nephew's and his friends prosthetics, he was very generous man.

Hot shot was doing well as he recovered from his surgery. Then bandage around his stump was molding it to a nice shape for is prosthetic. But his prosthetic will only fit him. Hot shot was really looking forward to getting it.

Then in May Hot shot was being fitted for his prosthetic. The model was made and then sent off. During the time in May the socket was being made. At the end of May Hot shot got to try on the socket for both his day leg and running blade. It was perfect fit to say the least. Hot shot liked it a lot. For his day leg Hot shot chose to have his favorite Pokemon type on it which was water types. For his running leg he chose to have a firetruck on it because he wanted to be fast like a firetruck speeding to an emergency.

In June his prosthetic was being put together. Then at the end of June Hot shot got to try it on and use it. It was a perfect fit. Hot shot liked it a lot. He was busy walking with it during the practice. Since it was below the knee it was easy and quick to learn. 

Hot shot was soon walking around like a pro. Hot shot was soon going to learn how to use his running blade but that was going to have to wait.
