There was snow all over the place, luckily there were trees aswell but this years arena was mainly snow. I was taking in my surroundings, trying to figure out which way to run, when I noticed, in the mouth of the Cornucopia, a timer was counting down the last few seconds of most of the Tributes' lives.
I hurriedly looked around at them, hopeful that Freddie would be positioned close to me, so we could run away together into the woods, and I could keep him safe, but he was nowhere to be seen.
5....4....3....2....1....
I ran as fast as I could, all I could manage to take was a thin blanket, that was a few metres away from my platform. I pondered over whether it was worth going in for the good stuff, but people were dying thick and fast, so I didnt want to chance it. I ran into the woods, hoping to bump into Freddie, but I didnt see him. I lost direction and ended up back at the Cornucopia just as it was getting dark, I saw people there , still fighting, so I turned around to get as far away as possible from them.
I've always been useless at climbing trees, so I had to perch on a low branch, that was only just strong enough to hold me, and hope that no-one would come by. I pulled the blanket up to my chin, it was really getting cold and the blanket wasn't doing much in the way of warmth. I almost fell off of the branch when the first cannon fired, 1....2....3....4....5....6....7....8....9....10....11....12....13. 13 dead, 11 alive. My heart skipped a beat when I thought of Freddie. Was he one of the 13? was he OK?
My mind was put at rest when the faces of the 13 were projected into the sky, and I saw that Freddie had survived the day. I slept surprisingly well that night, considering the circumstances, and I woke to the chirping of Robins. Today was going to be a long day...
