Each year 12 cities in England, Scotland and Wales get picked to provide a boy and a girl between 12 and 18 to fight to the death, much like the book. This year, for the third time in a row, my city, Manchester, has been picked.
Tomorow is the reaping of the third games. I know I wont sleep a wink tonight, but whats bad for me is 10 times worse for my little brother, Freddie, who is 12 and will be entered for the first time. I am 15 so ive been entered before so im kinda used to it now, but for Freddie, this is all new.
Last night went in a blur. Too fast in my opinion, nobody wants reaping day to come. So here I am, in my beautiful duck egg blue dress and matching ballet pumps, waiting fot the bell to toll, to tell us that we have to leave. Freddie is by my side, looking paler than usual in his smart black suit and tie, and his hair sleek with gel. i checked the clock, potentially 15 minutes left of freedom. I wandered round the living room, looking in drawers and chests, this could be the last time I will be here to see them. I open a drawer, ha! my mockingjay pin! ironic or what!. I used to be a MASSIVE hunger games fan before the war. Calendars, posters, the pin, i had it all! Now just the thought of it all makes me shudder.
"wear it, I dare you" I heard from behind me. I turned around and saw my older sister, Ingrid< standing there looking at the pin.
" Do it Orla" she said again.Ingrid is 18 so this will; be the last time she will be entered into the games. I pinned the mockingjay onto my dress and i saw the wing of the bird glistening in the early morning light.
BONG!!
10 o'clock. Its time to go.
