Bucky. It's all Steve could think. Even though Bucky was at the avengers tower, safe and sound, Steve still worried about him a lot. It made Steve upset most mornings when bucky would walk into the kitchen, and here's why.
"Mornin' Buck" Steve said, sipping on his coffee as he looks through his phone, trying to find new books to read. He liked when he held books and all, don't get him wrong, he preferred it that way, but it just seemed like he could find books in apps and not have to pay for them. He liked it that way, so he tried to get used to reading on his phone more often. He didn't hear the response from Buck, so he assumed for a moment that maybe he was just going back to his room to throw a shirt on since he always forgets in the morning, and which he did, but he didn't go back to his room because Steve could hear his footsteps going over to the kitchen.
He looked over his shoulder at Bucky who was opening up the cabinet full of medicine and medication. He went through it a little, knocking one out by accident because of his shaky hands and put it back. He reached up to the second shelf in the cabinet and found his anxiety medication. He's been taking them recently, because his nightmares have been getting so bad. It's been hard to shake off his past, Steve knows this well. Bucky had more PTSD, anxiety, and flashbacks than anyone in the tower.
It was heart wrecking. Bucky held so much pain for so many reasons. Who knows, Steve probably doesn't even know some of the reasons, just knows what bucky has told him. He watched him as Bucky's hands shook, opening up the bottle and taking one of the pills. Bucky swallowed the pill dry, not caring to take water. He didn't even notice Steve say good morning to him. His nightmare was the only thing he could focus on. Steve dropped his phone to his side, grabbing his cup from his lap and setting it on the coffee table in front of him. He stood up and started to walk to bucky.
Bucky had scars running across his back, chest, neck, and one big scars that ran across his face, over his right eye, making his eye blind on that one side. He always said it was like looking through a water bottle. He was still grateful though that he had his left eye,....and right arm. The scar went a little bit above his right eyebrow, leading down his eyebrow to his eye, then going down across his nose some, then going over his left cheek and down his jaw to his neck a bit. He told Steve the whole story on how he got the scar across his face.
It was a highly, I mean big big mission for bucky. He was killing one of the most famous people in the world, a celebrity that people loved and freaked out for because they were extremely obsessed. It was night, late at night when he broke into the guys house. It was all going smoothly, everything was going as planned, the HYDRA agent speaking into Bucky's ear piece on what to do, and what not to do.
Bucky listened and did as told. He walked into the man's room, but it caught him by surprise when the man was around the corner of his room door and held a knife in his hand. He held it up high and sliced bucky's face. Bucky remembers him screaming, the pain was so bad that his adrenaline kicked in, and without the man thinking of what to do next, Bucky pulled out his gun, raised it quickly and shot the guy right in the head.
He watched as the guy fell back after a few seconds, and he did the same, falling to the floor as blood ran down his face, soaking his clothes. The pure horror when he looked in the mirror those first few weeks were torture. He hated the way he looked, and hated the way the scar went across his face. It was big. It has long since healed but bucky could still see the blood in his hand and face when looking in the mirror because of that day.
Steve walked into the kitchen, looking at bucky who turned around, leaning against the counter with his eyes closed. Steve remembered how truly terrifying it was to see Bucky for the first time again in seventy years. When he looked at him, at first he didn't recognize him, but as he looked at his features closely, he couldn't even help the gasp that left his lips. "Bucky!?" Steve said, standing shell shocked. Bucky stood there, his mind racing with thoughts of knowing this man in front of him, but he couldn't seem to remember.
