--Narrator--

As per legal requirement, today was the disassembly drone's menditory yearly day off. J stood on a roof, leaning against an old railing next to two old squadmates of hers. F and K had been chosen to be the squad leaders of the two of the three other disassembly squads in this sector of the planet a bit before they were sent to COPPER 9.

"How's the last year treated you J ? You must have been busy since you only sent me and K one or two messages through the entire year."

F asked, as he fished a cigar out of his two piece suit's pocket.

"Oh god you wouldn't believe it, keeping the numbers up with the two idiots I got is a nightmare. By the way do you have an extra cigarette ? I ran out two months ago."

J said in an expasperated tone, in response F gladly gave her what she asked for before lighting the small cigarette for his former boss. J took in a deep breath, the feeling of her inner filters blocking out the smoke and letting a mixture of nicotine and oxygen enter her artificial lungs soothed her nevers before she let out the smoke with a long, satisfied sigh.

"Wow, you really needed one didn't you ?"

K joked as he looked over at J, a small smile on his face from being reunited with his old squad mates.

"Yeah I did, what about you guys ? How are things going for you too, I've seen you appear on the weekly top 5 once or twice this year. Finally getting the hang of being squad leaders ?"

J asked with a proud smile on her face, seeing her two former coworkers evolve like this was one of the reason she loved her job so much.

"Well even even though my two squad mates aren't the best they're giving it all they have and are slowly getting better, I feel like a father watching his two kids grow."

F said before taking a long drag of his cigar.

"Pretty much the same here."

K said as he looked away, J found it odd but decided not to press her old friend for answers.

"Well I'm glad you guys don't have idiots in your squads."

J said as she finished her cigarette and threw it over the railing.

"Anything big happened to you guys lately ? Me and my squad managed to get into one of those colonies. The place was packed full of worker drones, when we were done we had to call a resuply unit from the company because we had ran out of ammo halfway through the fight."

F said as he thought back to that day with a small smile on his face.

"Well not long ago the dumbest of my squad got his head blown off a few days ago."

J said with boredom as the F and K began to laugh their robotic asses. Once the two disassembly drone's laughter finally died down, it was K's turn.

"Personally nothing big happened this year."

Again, J found K suspicious. When the JFK squad was still a thing K had always been the wild card so J found it very strange that nothing peculiar had happened for an entire year with him being in charge of his own squad, this time she wanted to push K for information because if he was lying then something horrible must have happened, but J held her tongue, it was probably nothing. A long silence fell onto the group of three drones, but this wasn't the calm, comforting silence that they always had when they were together.
