RUN
by Elissa EvensonChapter One: STACY
Stella and I walked as quietly as we could.
"So Stacy, you think this is a good place to set up our camp?" Stella whispered.
"Yeah. It's nice and flat, open, and quiet." I responded.
We set our stuff down then I got a fire going. While I got wood for the fire, Stacy got a shelter set.
We've done this many times before so it was quick and easy to do. We were done before it was completely dark.
We've been running for most of our lives. Ever since our mom died and our dad became involved in crime, we've had to run. Always. Never stopping. From the society. They've always tried to take us since I was 11 and Stella, my sister, was 7. Now I'm almost 16.
"Think they'll get us tonight?" Stella asked.
"No." I said. "We're pretty well hidden. We left them in the dust today."
"Yeah, we did." Stella said as she smiled remembering our great chase we had earlier.

That night I dreamed of a table full of delicious food. Every single delicacy that you've ever seen was there. There was a table just full of pies! Apple pie, strawberry rhubarb pie, blueberry pie, blackberry pie, chocolate pie, french silk pie, the list goes on and on! Don't even get me started on all the chicken dishes! It was such a wonderful dream! But I suddenly felt sick. I was feeling really sweaty and I kept coughing. I opened my eyes to find I was drenched in sweat. And then I noticed the orange glow coming all around me. And the smokey black sky. And I realized what it was: fire.
