Chapter Five: STACY

I was very shocked to find how easily Mason picked me up.

"Put. Me. Down!" I shouted at him as I struggled to free myself.

"No. You need help and I'm going to help you." I couldn't help but smile at how stubborn he was. He seemed like an older, male version of my sister. I had to admit, he was pretty hot.

Wait. Stop right there. I can't be crushing on some romantic, hot guy I hardly know. Once my leg heals, I'll have to start running again. Wait a second- did I just say I was crushing on him? I'm screwed, I'm screwed, I'm screwed, I'm screwed....

Somehow Mason was able to open the door while carrying me. He set me down on the living room couch.

"Thanks." I said with a small smile.

"You don't talk a lot, do you?" Mason said starring intently at me. I shook my head. I looked down at my leg, big mistake. Suddenly I felt very sick and I thought I was going to faint. It looked so gross and gruesome.

"Hey," Mason said putting a hand on my shoulder. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah," I muttered weakly. "I-I'm fine."

"I don't believe you." Mason said matter-o-factly.

"No, it's true." I said my voice becoming stronger. "I'm alright." I gave him a weak smile.

"Ok, well I'll go get our first aid kit." Mason disappeared up the stairs into the bathroom. Me and Stella just stared at each other. Well more she starred at me while I grimaced in pain. She knew better than to bother me by asking if I was ok.

After a short minute, Mason returned with a first aid kit.

"Ok, so the first thing we should do is clean the burn." Mason explained. "The wrap it up in gauze and a bandage."

"Ok." I said in a weak voice. I could already feel my strength draining away.

"After that I'll let you rest and we'll go to the hospital."

"What? No!" I exclaimed.

"Why not? Anna, listen to me. You need hospital care. I can't do much for you." Mason held both of my hands in his giant warm ones. He was starring into my eyes. I felt like he was starring into my soul.

"Anna?" He asked. He took his thumb and wiped away a tear I didn't realize escaped.

"I can't." I said. My eyes pleaded with him to understand. He must've realized I didn't want to explain because he didn't pester me further.

"Can I just ask you where you're parents are?" Mason was looking into my eyes again. Into my soul. My hands were in his. It felt so... Right.

"Anna? You're spacing out again."

"Oh, haha, sorry." What were we talking about?? Oh yeah- "Well," I said and looked over at my sister who was sitting in a chair next to the couch. I didn't know whether I should tell Mason the truth or not. He seemed so trust-worthy. I needed to make a decision and I needed to make it quick. "follow your heart." It was a saying my mother use to always say to me. But what did my heart want?

"Well you see, my mother died when I was 10, and my dad became involved in crime." I said in one long breath.

Mason's eyes softened.

"Oh I'm sorry." He said, and pulled me into a bone-crunching hug.

"Can't... Breathe..."

"Oh, right. Sorry." He said and loosened his grip. He looked into my eyes. His eyes are so beautiful. I could feel myself being draw in towards him. Why was he so cute? What made his eyes so magnetic? I felt myself leaning forward toward his beautiful eyes. I saw Mason start to close his eyes.
