Chapter Eight: STELLA

It felt good to have actual food in my stomach. Mason made Stacy and me some chicken noodle soup. We both ate two whole cans.

"Thanks so much." I said quietly. I don't like talking very much. I prefer to just think. It's much quieter and peaceful that way.

"No problem. Now about tonight. My mom doesn't know you guys are here, and I don't know how well she'll handle it. So we might have to hide you for tonight." Mason explained.

"Ok, sounds good." Stacy replied. I saw the way she looked at Mason. She looked at him the same way she looked at our mother: pure adoration. She loves him. There's no doubt in my mind she loves him. It was Mason I was worried about. He seemed like a player, but there was something more. Something she couldn't quite place her finger on. And what would happen if they did get together? How would they go about living their life?

Well those questions can be answered later, right now it's time to eat some soup.

"Ooph." I said as I walked right into Mason.

"Oh, sorry. I didn't see you there.

"Where's St- Where's Anna?" Whew, close one.

"She's in my room upstairs."

"How'd she get upstairs?" I asked waggling an eyebrow.

"I carried her." Mason said and then he flexed his muscles. I laughed. I hadn't laughed in a long time. I don't even remember the last time I laughed. It felt good.

"So... Is that ALL you did?" I interrogated.

"Haha, yes. That's all. I swear."

"Ok, well stay away from my sister." I said and shot him "the evil eye."

"I wasn't even- I'm not..." Mason stuttered.

"Sure you weren't." I glared at him as I walked by. I had my suspicions about him. No good can come from a love affair between the two of them.
