a/n: fyi, the next (and last) chapter will be an epilogue, so this is kind of the last chapter of the story :')
Sam's pov
"Yes, my fiancèe should be here in ten minutes or so" I told the agent who was going to show us around the house as we waited for Ellie.
We'd decided to start looking for places to move to a long time before she proposed to me, although she probably agreed also because she knew we were already going to be engaged by then.
I still was in a weird state of not fully comprehending that had actually happened, and every time I'd remember it I'd feel as emotional as I did when it was happening. I kind of knew it was going to happen in the near future, the topic of marriage and future had been coming up in our conversations way more often than usual, but for some reason Ellie being the one to propose caught me off guard. In a good way.
We'd decided to take it all slow, both moving to a new place and the wedding. I still wanted Ellie's priority to be studying and graduating, which would happen a year later, more or less, and she was pretty convinced of that too. Although I'd sometimes had to remind her of that as she'd start to say we could just get married before the end of that year, and then we'd both start to dream way too big. I guessed we were in a sort of post-proposal honeymoon phase, if that was even a thing.
Ellie🤍: i'm sorry babe i'll be there really soon
Ellie🤍: class ended ten minutes late for some reason, getting on the subway now but it's just three stopsyou: Don't worry love, I don't mind waiting
you: The agent said he's gonna go sort some stuff out in the apartment in the meantimeExactly ten minutes had passed when the elevator doors next to me opened, revealing a worn out, out of breath Ellie with a half open backpack on one shoulder.
"Baby" I couldn't help but laugh as she walked to me. "You didn't need to rush"
"Well, I did" she said, pecking my lips. "I swear I felt like just skipping the lecture this morning, I should have listened to my instincts"
"Skipping lectures is never a good idea, and you know it"
"You don't get to say that" she said, rolling her eyes at me.
"I know more about the importance of attending lectures than you" I shrugged.
"I don't like your professor side anymore now"
"Too bad" I chuckled, grabbing her hand. "Shall we head inside?"
"Yeah" she said as we walked through the door in front of us. "Hi, sorry for being late" she told the agent, once we stepped into a huge living room area he was in.
"No worries" he politely smiled. "So, as you can probably see, this is the living room area, directly connected to the kitchen and dining area" he added as we both looked around the room.
The floor and furniture were mainly white-ish or light colors, except for the dark gray couch, in front of which there was a huge television attached to the wall. On the far end of the room, a same-colored kitchen counter separated the two spaces. But the highlight of the whole place was definitely the fact that every window had a view of New York's buildings, since we were on the tenth floor.
I couldn't help but keep smiling the whole time the guy showed us around the house, because the conversation about moving to a different place me and Ellie had had multiple times was starting to become reality. We were probably going to see many more places before choosing one, we weren't in a rush, but it still felt like a small step towards actually building a life and future together.
