Rushing towards one another, Y/n and Evelyn clash their weapons against each others as their elemental powers shoot out behind them. Smoke billows behind Evelyn as flames shoot out behind Y/n and he puts more strength behind his swing than she can fight back against, making her jump back. During their encounter, tiny pieces of her weapon lodge into his baseball bat and his flames make them melt in place.
Evelyn: Good.
They toss more attacks at each other. Y/n tries throwing a flame spear at her but she transforms his whole body into a cloud of dense smoke and charges at him. However, he swings his arms out around himself, amassing a large amount of flames around his body. She tries to attack from above but then he releases his attack.
Y/n: Flame Pillar.
Shooting his flames straight up, he uses all the collected fire he'd just gotten and like before it lit up the sky.

She manages to avoid it, but not before being hit in the shoulder by the edge of the flame. Even as smoke, his fire was hot enough to actually burn her skin on her left shoulder. His built up fire was stronger than regular flames and she couldn't smother it in time. Soon, she falls back to the earth and they clash their weapons again.
Evelyn: Looks like you're tough even without your power. I'm glad you're not used to relying on it and it alone.
They walk in a circle as other stuff is going on around them.
Y/n: Same goes for you. I guess neither of us were stupid enough to use it as a crutch.
Evelyn stops walking and points her weird weapon at him.
Evelyn: Indeed. Although, you've still got a lot to learn. Consider this lesson one.
They run at one another again, but this time Evelyn is more focused on using her weapon unlike before. Y/n stares at it as she goes to swing, the only thought being the same one he's had every other time someone has tried hitting or cutting him with something. "Phase through it," it's the same thing every single time.
Y/n: You have powers like me, Mom. Do you really think that's going to work?
Evelyn: You'll see.
She jumps up into the air and dives down at Y/n, but as he tries to phase through by turning into his flames... It doesn't work. And much to his shock, she shoves the end of her weapon down on his chest and slams him onto the ground with enough force that it breaks the concrete beneath him and splinters it under his back. It was even enough force to drive him into the ground a little past the concrete.
