chapter four: into dustIF SERAPHINA WANTED TO GET sponsors, she knew now would be her final chance before she entered the games. She had to make a good impression, she just had to.
The girl stood in position backstage, finally alone with her thoughts as she took deep breaths in and out to calm her nerves. The boy from district 7, Wilfred Preach, had just finished, so it was only a matter of time before it was her turn.
The crowd had settled down, and Seraphina quickly fixed her hair as she was announced.
"Now, all the way from district 8... the beautiful Seraphina Faye!" Caesar's extravagant voiced introduced her. The sound of the Capitol citizens cheering filled her ears as the curtain pulled and revealed her.
The spotlight was almost blinding, the shimmers of the gold dress she wore sure to catch the attention of even the other tributes. She smiled that award winning smile she watched Finnick display, waving to the crowds like they were her fans on a sold out tour.
Finnick's words in her head played over and over. If they want you to play the sweetheart, play the sweetheart.
The girl tried her best to walk as elegantly as possible towards the host, pulling him in for a kiss on the cheek with fake excitement. Caesar gladly accepted the warm welcome, gesturing behind her to the seat as he complimented her.
"My goodness, they love you, my dear!" The man laughed obnoxiously as the crowds continued to cheer, only dying down once they were told. "Now, now everyone, you're going to use up our 2 minutes!"
They laughed at the charming man. Seraphina wondered how he did it.
"Seraphina, tell me... what's your favourite part of the Capitol so far?" Caesar finally began the interview once the crowds settled, turning the girl with a quizzical look.
The girl placed both hands delicately on her crossed legs, sitting up proper and lady like as she pondered the question. She had suspected a starter question like this from watching the previous interviews... always having to highlight the Captiol in a positive light.
"I'd definitely say the music and the dancing," she answered, a grin plastered across her face as Caesar gave a cheeky smile. A lie, of course.
"Ooh, do we have a party girl amongst the tributes?" He questioned with feigned interest, the crowding cheering and oohing after him.
Seraphina let out a giggle, which even surprised herself, before shaking her head lightly and pretending to grow embarrassed under the crowds prompts.
"More of a music lover than a party girl, Caesar," the brunette kindly corrected, brushing a pouncing curl behind her ear from nerves.
The large crowd was certainly daunting, and her blurred vision from the eyeliner was making it hard to find any familiar faces.
"Do you play any instruments back at home?" the man wondered, resting his head on his hand as if she was the most interesting person alive. Seraphina had to hand it to him, he sure knew how to make the tributes more interesting.
She turned her gaze back to him. "Just the guitar. I mostly sing when given the chance."
"A singer!" He exclaimed, turning the crowd in bewilderment. "Oh, you must sing for us, my dear!"
