I was trying to wake Oliver up. He was sleeping soundly, and I didn't want to startle him, so I spoke softly. "Oli, wake up, you have to take your pills, it's 2:59 p.m., and you still have a minute to take them," I said, holding the medicine bottle in my hand. He opened his eyes, still groggy from sleep, and looked at me quizzically. I handed him the bottle, and he snatched it from my hand, almost knocking it over.
I was taken aback by his sudden outburst and looked at him, confused. He chuckled softly, trying to hide his embarrassment. "Sorry, didn't mean to! I don't know what happened to me, but seriously you're so sharp with timing," he said, trying to change the subject.
But I couldn't ignore the fact that something was off. I looked at the label on the bottle, and my heart sank. "ANTIDEPRESSANTS?" I exclaimed, hoping he'd tell me what was going on. But instead of answering, he just looked at me sadly.
I knew then that something was wrong. I asked him if he was okay, but all he did was shake his head, tears spilling from his eyes. It was clear that Oli was going through a lot, and I had no idea about it. I felt guilty for not noticing earlier and helpless for not knowing how to help him. I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him close, feeling the warmth of his body against mine. I held him tightly, very tightly, trying to comfort him as he cried. I assured him that everything would be okay and that I was there for him. After a few moments, I decided to do something that would brighten up his day. However, I didn't want to rush him, so I gave him some time to feel better before making any plans.
After about five minutes, I suggested we make some cupcakes together. He agreed and his face lit up with a small smile. Together, we made our way to the warm and welcoming kitchen, taking in the delicious aromas of freshly baked treats. We carefully gathered all the necessary ingredients for our cupcakes, selecting each one with care. As we mixed the batter, the smooth and creamy texture combined with the sweet scent of vanilla extract filled the air. We enjoyed each other's company, chatting and laughing as we decorated the cupcakes with colorful frosting and sprinkles. With each swirl and twirl of the frosting bag, we created unique and beautiful designs that were both delicious and visually stunning. The entire experience was a delightful and memorable one, filled with warmth, laughter, and the joy of baking together.
I reminded him that his parents were picking him up around 5 p.m., so we made sure to finish the cupcakes in time. By the time his parents arrived, we had a plate of delicious cupcakes ready for them to take home. He hugged me goodbye and thanked me for being there for him. I smiled and told him that I was always there for him, no matter what. "Hey, don't forget about our sleepover, okay? You promised!" I grinned at him. He scratched his head and chuckled, "Yeah, yeah, I remember. I'll bring the board games and snacks, and we can have a blast!"After saying goodbye to Noah's parents, I headed inside to take care of the kitchen.
As I was putting away the dishes, I heard a familiar voice behind me. It was Noah, and he was excited to see the cupcakes I had made. "You made cupcakes?!" he exclaimed. "Yes, I did," I replied dryly, not in the mood for small talk. "They taste delicious!" Noah continued, trying to strike up a conversation. Despite his best efforts, the next 36.06 seconds were filled with awkward silence, as neither of us seemed to know what to say after the car accident. I put in some elbow grease to make sure the kitchen was spotless, all while he stood there looking clueless with his head in the clouds. As I walked into the room, I saw him standing there with a mop in his hand. "What do you want?" I asked, wondering why he was still here after all this time. "I want to...help?" he replied, sounding unsure of himself. I couldn't help but roll my eyes in disbelief at his response.
