The principal's office was tense as Amanda, the girl who hit me, and her mother sat across from the principal and my mother. I could sense the tension in the air as the principal carefully considered her decision. Sweat glistened on my mother's forehead as she stared intently at the principal, clearly hoping that Amanda would receive a harsh punishment for what she had done to me.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the principal spoke. "Amanda Myers, after careful consideration," she began, her eyes flicking over to me and then back to Amanda, "you will be expelled from school starting today."
I tried to maintain a facade of fear and trauma, but inwardly I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Amanda had hit me in the hallway in front of several witnesses, and now she was finally facing the consequences of her actions. Amanda, for her part, glared at me the entire time, clearly furious for playing a role in her punishment. After the unpleasant confrontation with Amanda and her mother, my mother took me home early. She treated me like a princess and offered me comforting words about my face which had a black eye and scratches here and there. I couldn't help but notice Amanda's long nails when we were in the principal's office, which was probably the cause of my injuries. My injuries would take days to heal!
After dozing off for a few hours, I awakened to find my younger brother, Oliver, snuggled up beside me. I smiled contentedly, basking in the warmth of his affection. "I know you love me!" he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling mischievously as they met mine. "No, I don't!" I retorted playfully, chuckling at his antics. But the twinkle in his eyes told me that he was up to something.
Suddenly, he gave me an evil smirk. "Oh no," I groaned, sensing what was coming next. "Oh yes," he replied with a grin, his eyes twinkling with delight. This could only mean one thing - "The Tickling War."
Trying to extricate myself from his grip proved futile, as my body was hopelessly tangled up with his. Oliver straddled me, raised his hands, and began tickling me mercilessly, while I squirmed and laughed, frantically trying to escape his clutches. I called out for our mother, but she was out, leaving only Noah, our older brother, at home with us.
Desperately, I shouted out to Noah, "Noah! Noah! Help! Noah!" My pleas for help were interspersed with peals of laughter. Suddenly, the door burst open, and Noah appeared, looking annoyed. "What?" he asked gruffly. "Tickling war! Help me!" I gasped out between guffaws.
Without hesitation, Noah sprang into action, launching himself at Oliver and pulling him off me. Relief flooded over me, and I smacked Oliver's forehead. "Thank you," I said to my brother with a grateful smile, feeling a sense of warmth and safety. But as Noah left my room, I couldn't help but be reminded of the fact that he had left my life years ago, leaving a void that could never be filled. As I saw him approaching, my annoyance levels skyrocketed. "How are you feeling now?" he asked, with a concerned expression on his face. Unable to mask my irritation, I replied with a hint of sarcasm, "Worse that you're here!" My tone must have given away my true feelings, and my facial expression probably didn't help either. That's when I decided to make amends. "I'm just joking, I'm so happy you're here!" I said while hugging him tightly. His chuckle filled the room, bringing a sense of relief to the situation.
"I mean seriously look at my face, it's ruined! I'm ugly now," I exclaimed. His response was immediate. "I think you might not see yourself. You are incredibly beautiful, even with the tiniest of blemishes. Those scratches only add character to your already stunning features. Your loyalty and unwavering support are just as admirable as your physical beauty. You are a true gem, and I am lucky to have you in my life," he reassured me. His words brought a smile to my face, and I hugged him so tight he might die. As soon as I heard the heartfelt words, I froze. My heart began to race, and I felt a wave of emotions wash over me.
"Stop!" I managed to say, my voice shaking with a mix of fear and the feeling of bursting out laughing. "I hate emotional moments, but thank you so much for saying that!" My mind was racing as I tried to process what was happening. "I love you as my love for chocolate," I blurted out, feeling a bit embarrassed by how cheesy it sounded.
"I'm not an expert with emotional moments," I admitted, feeling a bit vulnerable. "I don't know how to reply." The truth was, I wasn't used to receiving such heartfelt compliments, and I wasn't sure how to react. But despite my unease, I was deeply touched by Oliver's kind words. "I appreciate your kindness," I said, my voice softening. "It means so much to me."
As I tried to gather my thoughts, I realized that I truly valued this person's friendship. "Your friendship is important to me," I said, feeling a surge of gratitude. "Thank you for being there for me." Even though I wasn't sure how to handle emotional moments, I knew that I was lucky to have someone who cared for me so deeply.
Oliver and I made eye contact and suddenly burst out laughing. Our laughter was so contagious that we couldn't stop, and we laughed until our stomachs started to ache. It was one of those moments where everything else faded away, and all that mattered was the joy of the present moment.
"Guess what?" He suddenly blurted out.
"Hmm?" I replied.
"I'm going to Las Vegas this winter break!" He said smiling.
"You're joking?!" I said smiling as well.
"Unfortunately, I'm not, but I'm going with my mom there," he said a bit sad.
"Hey! So you're meeting Katy Perry in like- wait - how many weeks till winter break?" I asked confused.
"One week and six days," he said as matter-of-factly.
That means in exactly two weeks I'm seeing the Robert brothers.
