My Lamia [Nightkiller]

Nightmare sighed as he stood underneath the apple tree, he chuckled as he cursed someone under his breath. Another day meant another beat up session, he hated it yet... He couldn't help but to enjoy it. He was the guardian of negativity after all. He stared at the glistening grass below before smiling, drops of blood staining the green canvas under.

He grazed his hand upon his mother's bark and eventually, he found the hollow and reached in for his book. After looking at the cover, he could see it was the oldest book in his collection. He read the title before shrugging, re-reading wasn't a problem for him. The book was about different magical creatures and what defines them.

He opened the crusty compilation of pages and began to read. "Hydras, they are snakes with multiple heads. If one of those heads are severed, 2 will grow back in it's place... A drop of its saliva can kill a hundred men." Nightmare continued softly before looking over to the next page. "Gorgons, they are women with snakes for hair and have wings on their back. They turn people into stone if gazed upon and are highly sought after by the greatest of hunters, most commonly for sport." Nightmare read before flipping the page. "Lamias-" Nightmare stopped before looking up.

He swore he saw something red slithering across the forest in front of him from the corner of his eyes...

He reluctantly looked down and began reading cautiously. The red "thing" really startled him up.

"Lamias, they are beings of beauty. They have the upper half of a human and a lower half of a snake." Nightmare looked at the picture that was supposed to be an example and hummed. "Huh, they kinda look like mermaids...but snake versions." He said to himself and lowered his gaze on the page. There was more, surprisingly.

"There is also an extraordinarily unique variant of this creature, they are called "Skeletal Lamias". Although their classification might seem off-putting, they are actually more attractive and more sought after than normal lamias because of their versatile bodies, much like the normal skeleton but in lamia form. Their scales cost more because of their higher magic content and they are harder to find, let alone to tame." Nightmare said and stopped when a drop of blood fell onto the page. Nightmare groaned out of frustration before carefully wiping it off the paper. To his agony, the stain worsened and almost covered the entire unread paragraph below the one he just read. At the end, he closed the book before being scared shitless by his brother screaming "Hello Brother!!!".

Dream laughed at this before his face darkened when he saw the newly formed black eye and cuts on Nightmare's face. "Nighty! Who did this to you?" He asked with concern and Nightmare forced an awkward laugh.

Besides, he knew Dream couldn't change anything...

Dream noticed the sarcasm in the tone before feeling sad. "Is it...them?" He asked and Nightmare looked at him, realizing what he had done. "Well...yes, but it's not your fault, Dream." Nightmare confessed before squishing his brother's cheek. Dream still felt bad but Nightmare assured him it was okay since it felt oddly...delicious.

Dream sighed out of frustration, getting a bit weirded out by his brother's masochistic tendencies... "Okay, brother... Just don't normalize it as much." He warned before examining his brother's injuries. To be honest, as a guardian of positivity or may be positivity itself, he had NO idea what to do in these kind of situations... He wasn't sure to support his brother's weird way of pleasure or to force him to stop.

As the sun fell from the sky and it was the moon's turn to shine, the two brothers unwrapped the banner that hung around their mother's trunk before getting down to sleep. Nightmare sat and pressed his back against the wooden structure while Dream placed his head on his brother's lap before instantly falling asleep. Nightmare found this to be funny and he covered his brother's body with the banner to act as a blanket.
