Prompt: Main characters meeting after they haven't seen each other in a very long time
--------------------------------------------------------------Tape and glue. That's what Miranda Bailey told him she was being held together by. In actuality she was being held together by a male nurse. This pissed Ben off so bad he left that hospital and the state of Washington all together. He made a name himself in California and never looked back.
That was until he got an offer to attend and speak at a conference in Seattle. He jumped on the opportunity. It had been 15 years since he even thought about Seattle. He was happy here in California but something always felt like it was missing.
"Ready" His son smiled at him. He begged to tag along. He had met a lovely woman here in California. He was hesitant to open his heart again but he fell for her. They got married and had a beautiful son Benjamin Danny Warren who they affectionately call BJ. But he often refers to himself as Jamin since he is a young man now. He was the spitting image of his father. Almost as of Ben had him all by himself. Ben's world changed for the better once his son was born or at least in that area. Unfortunately his marriage fell apart. He and his wife sorta just drifted apart and eventually got divorced. However they make coparenting work
"You sure you want to come to some boring conference with me" He looked at his son
"Dad. You're giving a speech about lab grown body parts. What part of that is boring again? Of course I want to come" He laughed
Ben smiled. His son is so into medicine.
Ben's ex is a lawyer. Ben met her at a bar after a particularly hard day of his residency. She had a particularly hard day in court and they ranted about their hard days to each other. Even though they didn't work out as husband and wife they are very good friends.
"Alright then let's head to the airport" He smiled as they walked out of the house. He locked up and they took an uber to the airport
"I told mom we were heading to the airport. She said be safe or she'll come to Seattle personally" Jamin laughed
"She worries too much. I'm always safe" Ben smiled as he they got out at the airport. They made their way through security and just were waiting for their flight to board.
"Are we going to sight see while we're here" Jamin asked
"That's the plan. We're staying for a week. Days where I'm not speaking or watching a lecture. It's just you and me buddy" Ben nodded
"I'm excited to see where you come from" Jamin smiled "hey maybe we could swing by that hospital you used to work at"
"Yeah maybe" Ben gave his son a fake smile. He hadn't thought about that place. It wasn't on his list of places to go. When he left that was that. He had no plans of returning. But his son was very excited and so he would sacrifice for his son. Ben wondered how much had changed about the place he used to call home. The people he used to work with.
"Dad our flight is boarding" Jamin took Ben out of his thoughts
They collected their carryons and made their way to the line to board their plane. They got situated in first class
"Wow first class" Jamin smiled. This was his first time on a plane. In all his 13 almost 14 years of life he had never been out of California. Ben wanted to make this special for his son. They snapped a quick pic and Ben sent it to his ex-wife. She loved it and he put his phone in his pocket.
"Wait till you see our hotel suite" Ben smiled
"This is why kids are jealous of me" Jamin gave his dad a fist bump "my dad is awesome"
Ben was proud his son thought he was cool. He feared that once he was a teenager they'd lose their closeness they've always had but Jamin adored his father. He thought he had a cool job. He knew his son bragged on him all the time.
"Everything I do, I do for you" Ben smiled
As the plan took off Ben sensed his son was apprehensive he leaned over and grabbed his hand
"Thanks Dad" His son shyly smiled "thought I'd do better at my big age"
"You're never too old for me to comfort you" He smiled
Once their plane had took off and was flying through the sky Jamin was okay. He was playing a game on his phone. Ben was reading a magazine fully concentrating.
"You know mom's dating" Jamin randomly blurted out
"Well good for her" Ben nodded
"Do you have someone" Jamin asked
"Why are you curious" He looked at his son
"Well you and mom have been divorced for a while and I love that you guys are still friends but dad you still wear your wedding ring. It's scaring the women away"
"The women" He looked at his son with a confused look in his eye "what you know about women"
"I know any respectable woman isn't going to approach a man with a wedding ring on" He shook his head "you still love mom or something"
"Son, your mother was a light in my life during a dark time. And she gave me you. Of course I love her. But that's not why I still wear my ring" Ben sighed
"Then why"
"I can't put it in to words. I mean I've worn it this long. My finger just feels naked without it"
Satisfied with that answer Jamin nodded. He looked at his dad as if he had more to say but instead he just went back to his game.
Ben wondered why his son was concerned about him seeing anyone but he decided not to press the issue and just relax for the rest of the flight. He found himself dozing off.
The sound of the announcement of their arrival in Seattle woke Ben up. He stretched and woke his son up.
"We're here" His son rubbed his eyes
"Yup bud welcome to Seattle" He smiled
They grabbed their carryons. And got off the plane. They got their luggage from baggage claim
"Okay time to pick up our rental and head to our hotel" Ben smiled
"Man I'm excited" Jamin smiled pulling out his phone snapping a pic of himself in the airport. "Letting mom know we landed"
Ben got the keys to the rental and they walked out to the car.
"Nice" Jamin admired the car. "A Benz"
"Of course" Ben laughed and unlocked the car. They tossed their stuff in the back and Ben put the address to the hotel in the gps before leaving the airport.
"This a smooth ride" Jamin smiled and took a pic of himself
"You acting like you don't love my Suburban" Ben laughed
"I do but Dad this is a Benz" Jamin laughed "this car was made for us. We are Bens"
"Thought you were Jamin" Ben smirked
"Hey I sign my name Benjamin just like you" Jamin smirked back
"You really are a mini me" Ben shook his head
"Mom said Im not your son. Im your clone" Jamin winked "you made me"
Ben laughed. Moments like this with his son reminds him why he still wears his ring. It reminds him of the happiest moments of his life.
They pulled up to the hotel. Ben went in and checked in before they took their luggage up. He knew his son was going to flip when he saw the suite. It was a two bedroom suite with a living room and a full kitchen.
"Yooo we staying like Kings" Jamin looked around the suite
"Only the best for future Dr. Ben Warren and current Dr. Ben Warren" Ben laughed
"Wait till the fellas see this" He took a picture in front of the window showing off their great view of the city
This was going to be an awesome father son trip Ben smiled to himself
