"Jamin time to get up if you want to do rounds with the chief" Ben shook his son

"I thought after our silent night, you wouldn't allow me to" He yawned and stretched

"Look" Ben sighed "Miranda and I did have something in the past. I'm sure your mother told you I was still in love with someone when I first met her. Well the truth is I may have been. But I haven't thought about Miranda in years. I'm sure she hasn't thought about me either so if you have some ulterior motive to shadowing her today, I suggest you stay in this bed and I will tell you were sick"

"I want to shadow the chief dad. Just to shadow the chief" He got out of bed

Ben figured his son was partially telling the truth. He in fact did want to shadow the chief due to his interest in medicine however he also wanted to shadow Miranda because of who she is. He decided not to bother his son about it. He knew Miranda Bailey. Well at least he knew who she was over a decade ago. Her fiery attitude surely would deter any prying his son may attempt with her.

After they were dressed and ready they stopped to get coffee and muffins and headed into the hospital.

"Good morning chief Bailey" Jamin smiled "Brought you a coffee"

"Well you're already making a great intern" She smiled

"You two have fun today and Jamin try not to annoy your attending. It's generally frowned upon" Ben gave his son a hug and Miranda a slight smile and went on his way to the lab with Jackson.

"Morning Chief" Meredith walked past and smiled "New intern"

"Good morning" Jamin smiled

"Have you gotten the speech yet" She nudged Jamin

"Speech" He looked between the two doctors. They smirked and chuckled. He thought back to what his dad said about being an intern sounds fun at first. He worried he was getting to the part where it would no longer be fun. He wasn't a real intern he was just a teenager so legally they can't treat him that bad. Right?

"I have 5 rules memorize them" Miranda looked at him "Rule number one. Don't bother sucking up, I already hate you, thats not going to change. Nurses will page you, you will answer every page at a run, A run thats rule number number 2.  Your first shift starts now and lasts 48 hours. You're an intern, grunt, nobody, bottom of the surgical food chain. You run labs, write orders, work every second night until you drop and don't complain. On call rooms. Attendings hog them sleep where you can, when you can, which brings me to rule number three. If I'm sleeping, don't wake me unless your patient is dying. Rule four the dying patient better not be dead when I get there. Not only will you have killed someone, you woke me for no reason. We clear?"

"Does any of them actually apply to me" Jamin's head reeled from everything Miranda just said to him

"Actually you're supposed to point out she only said four rules" Meredith chuckled "Then the speech is complete"

"Oh uh that was only four rules not five" Jamin looked back at Bailey who had a growing smile on her face

"Rule number five. When I move, you move" She nodded in satisfaction. It had been awhile since she gave her famous speech and it felt good to go back to her roots. She thought back to her days as a resident.

"So again does any of that actually apply" Jamin asked again with a worried chuckle

"Of course not you're 13" Miranda and Meredith laughed

"14 this weekend" He smiled

"You have a birthday coming up" Meredith smiled

"Yeah and I begged my dad to bring me here for my birthday so I could experience a medical conference and hopefully see his hometown" He nodded
