🙃Ben's POV🙃
"Ugh, I so badly want to destroy that alarm clock," I say, and Grim chuckles.
"Oh! I'm well aware of that," he says, starting to put the eggs and bacon onto a plate. "But I think I have some news that may be able to lift your spirits," he adds, placing my plate in front of me. I quirk an eyebrow. "And what's that?" I ask, putting a piece of egg into my mouth. Grim sneaks a look at me, rests his elbow on the table, and grins. "Well... I got intel that a lady got herself stuck in the headline news," he says. I choke, hoping he isn't referring to her. "What are you talking about?" I cough out the words, take a quick sip of water, and sigh.
Grim looks puzzled for a moment then bursts into laughter. "Oh, my days. I forgot that you have many women in your life," he says, and I grit my teeth. He can see my darkened expression but just shrugs it off. Grim takes out his phone and after a few seconds, he puts the phone down and pushes it toward me. I pick up the phone and stare at the photo and the headline.
Unconsciously, the tips of my mouth tug up, and when I look back at Grim, he's smiling nervously. "What?" I ask, returning the phone back to him. He takes it. "Geez, man. We know each other's stories, and yet your Cheshire smile still makes me shudder at times like this."
I roll my eyes. "For an assassin, you still have pure fragments inside you."
"And you don't, Raven?" he asks, and I don't have any way of answering that. Sometimes I do wonder if I have any pure fragments inside me. Other times, I feel like the devil's incarnation.
Grim sighs. "C'mon, turn that frown upside down and think about the things you should be thankful for." I laugh. "I don't see a reason to be thankful for that viper finally getting karma," I say, and he shrugs, looking out the window. "Then just be thankful for karma."
I shake my head and stand to take my plate, my mood being lifted a little. "Just leave the dishes in the sink; I can handle them. You get ready for school."
"I don't mind doing the dishes; I still have plenty of time before I get going to school," I say, placing the dishes inside the sink. "This is part of my rent, remember," he says, and I groan, running a hand through my hair. "I told you already I'm letting you stay here free of charge, so don't even bring up the topic, the definition, not even the word rent again," I say, and start washing the dishes. "Next time you try to utter the words, I'll make sure you won't be able to step out of this house without limping first."
"Geez, yes, Raven, I won't utter those again," he says and starts to leave the dining room, muttering under his breath, "So violent," like he's one to talk. Ever since I took him in, he's basically been my comrade and probably a friend too. The moment I saw his eyes, I knew well that revenge was on his main agenda, and he wouldn't give up until the man we both loathe got what was coming to him.
My attention snaps back to what I'm doing, and I take notice of Grim's empty favorite mug that has a skull picture on it. The thought makes me laugh as I remember Crystal's words that day.
"Do you enjoy danger?" she asks, and I look at her confused. She pointed up. "And besides that, anywhere I see you, it's like you're having tea and crumpets with the Grim Reaper before you both walk into the sunset."
I can't control it anymore. I'm howling in laughter. "What's wrong?" Grim suddenly pops out and rushes into the kitchen. When he sees the state I'm in, he rolls his eyes. "You're already 50% insane; I don't want to start googling for psychiatric hospitals right now." I wheeze in between laughter. "What are you talking about?" I ask, wiping a tear away from my eye. He looks at me for a moment before he does the Shakespeare pose. "Thou, young lad, hath misplaced thy wits, as if the very essence of reason hath taken flight from thee," in a very imposter-like British accent, and I lose it. I have to hold the sink with a death-like grip to not fall on the ground laughing uncontrollably.
