Sannidhi
Tears stream down my face as I try to stop my best friend from doing something he will surely regret later. I look around hoping someone will help me stop the fight, but no. All the students around me have whipped out their phones, recording the scene.
Sushanth's face is covered in blood as I hear a crack. The sound of his hard fist connecting to soft open flesh with blood splattering, the rusted copper stench making me nauseous. I finally grab Agasthya from behind, my arms restricting his movements and pull towards me and him drag him away with all my strength.
"Let me go Nidhi, I'll show him what a bastard can do."
"No Agasthya don't."
"How dare you hit me asshole? Ah, I'm bleeding." He spits out blood. Red thick liquid mixed with saliva and unmistakably, one of his teeth falls out. "Ahh, I'll kill you motherfucker, step a foot into my area and see what will happen. I'll make you wish you were dead. And you, two timing bitch, you chose him over me, did you? How long were you waiting to insult me like this? Infront of all these people? You must be happy that two guys fought over you right? I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget. Wait and watch. Eh bastard Agasthya, just wait and see she will leave you for someone else just like she left me for you." When Agasthya takes a step forward, taking me with him, Sushanth scurries from there slightly limping making way through the crowd.
"Agasthya don't follow him, Stop it. He's not worth it. Don't take his words to your heart please. Don't go back to fight him." I plead holding his face in my hands, checking for any injuries.
His shirt is torn and bloody and his face looks okay except for the split in his lip and an open wound on his left cheek. His eyes are still focused on the place Sushanth just stood a minute ago.
"Agasthya, please look at me." I choke.
He finally looks down at me. Taking a few deep breaths and shuts his eyes. A minute later, he opens his eyes and leans down his forehead meeting mine, our eyes clashing with each other. Our breaths mixing, the stench of rusted copper, sweat and tears making my head spin.
"Agas-" I start, closing my eyes as I feel a tear slide down my cheek.
"Shh" he traces my cheekbone gently like he's touching something so fragile, so delicate that he's afraid it will break even if he applied a little bit of force.
"He's right. I am a coward. I don't even know who my father is. I don't even have the guts to ask my mom about him without worrying that I'll hurt her feelings. I can't even express my feelings boldly without thinking of a hundred what ifs taking root in my brain. I'm sorry I'm such a failure. I'm sorry I'm such a coward."
"No." I say, stopping his fingers when he tries to cover my mouth to shut me up. "This is my fault, Agasthya. I dated that douche bag. I brought him into our lives. I gave him one chance after the other hoping he won't repeat his mistakes again. Yet, he did them regardless. You, Ved, Adi, Rahul, Siri, Sidharth, everyone told me a hundred times to break-up and be done with him, but I never listened. I acted so selfishly and look where it got me? seeing you hurt and bleeding? Insulted? I never wanted this to happen Agu. I swear, this is not what I wanted. I told.. I told him to stop. I should've just listened to what he wanted to say and not walk away. That's what caused so much problems..."
