Chapter 12

Reinforcements

When Ren had seen the claw henchmen she had gotten up to run back to the car to use the phone there. She had a small satellite phone for emergencies...and this was that.

Dialing the law enforcement there was a bit tricky though. Seeing as this was a different county it would patch her into the local law enforcement rather than interpole like she wanted.

Finally after a few minutes she heard Quimby's gruff voice over the line.

"What! I'm busy..." the line crackled a little. The phone was temperamental and worked whenever it wanted to.

"Quimby!" Ren yelled at him.

Quimby looked at the phone as he heard Ren's long explanation as to where they were, why they had gone, and oh yeah he knew. She was panicking.

"Calm down Doc...just give me the address...we're closer than you know." Why didn't that reassure her? They followed them, why didn't they help?!" She gritted her teeth and slammed the phone down on the receiver.

She looked back at where she had left Gadget and realized he was nowhere to be seen. Oh no, he was...

" Crap..."

She couldn't depend on Quimby, she wasn't even sure if he was legit anymore or part of Claws people. She couldn't trust anyone anymore, and that thought hurt.

What to do? She wasn't that good at anything more than...engineering...she went to one side of the house and looked around seeing the water piping, and the old AC. Her face broke into the most sinister smile. She knew what she had to do.

Gadget looked up at the man he had once seen as his brother in law. The man who married his beloved sister. The man stood there looking over his inner workings.

"I'm afraid that missile wasn't meant for our car, it was meant for the Anthems. The idiot who did it was...let's just say for the sake of small ears that he will no longer be pushing buttons again." Claw told him. John's eyes went to his nieces who looked around at the layout of the place. John could tell she was working things out in her little baby mind, but she lacked the height and know how to do anything more than be angry at the people who do her uncle wrong. At least...that's what his mind told him because of the disappointed look on her face.

"You see...there's a lock box that has something in it that Mary had made." Claw leaned into his chest and smiled. "And it can only be opened with blood. You see...I tried Penny's, she's got both Mary's and mine in her. I thought it would be enough. She turned out to be just as useless as most babies are." He chuckled looking up at John as he gritted his teeth.

"She isn't useless...fathers who refuse to take responsibility for their children are useless." John growled out squirming away from Claws proddings. It was beginning to hurt, although John wasn't sure how that even worked.

"Oh come now John..."

"Gadget...you can call me Inspector Gadget." John glared at the man in front of him. Claw chuckled as he pushed the tool in between two plates and pulled. The feeling made John gag.

"What are you doing?" John strained as he tried to look down at his chest, but the inhibitor was still around his neck. The past he could do was inch his way, which wasn't much at all being as heavy as he was.

"Ah, I did mention blood right? Your blood seems to be locked down inside this form, I'm still not sure it'll work because you are also running on oil." He held up a vial and smiled.

The reddish black liquid between his fingers told John that Claw had what he wanted.

"Don't..." John tried. Claw chuckled as he walked over to the safe. John wasn't totally sure just what kind of machine he was talking about. Mary built hundreds of them.

"Claw!" The voice over a loudspeaker outside echoed within the basement's concrete outer walls. "Come out with your hands up!" Quimby's voice echoed.

John smiled to himself. He looked up at Penny, she knew that voice. She's known that voice since the day she was born.

They were saved...

right?
