Boom

The side of the wall in the basement blew outward. The whole basement was enveloped in steam. There was a loud laugh that came from the opening. John tried to see who it was, but he couldn't even make out the outline because of how much mist was in the air. It made it incredibly hard to breathe. John began to cough.

He felt fingers ghosting over his chest. He felt a little dizzy now. He looked around at the person who had on goggles, and a mask. He felt something fit over his face. Fresh air entered his lungs. His head began to clear up rather fast.

"What happened?" It was Ren! In her arms was Penny. The infant seemed to be held tightly within her jacket. Squirming and wanting to break free, but she couldn't. Ren had her held tightly to her chest. Fear...she was afraid.

"Where did you go?" John asked almost accusingly. Ren just rolled her eyes as she took the box from his neck. It was like on automatic. His limbs jolted and began to move again.

"I went to call for help...We couldn't have taken on all those people on our own." She was right, he did have a problem with that. He couldn't have...maybe.

"Here lets get this steam out of here." He opened up something on his finger and it turned into a fan. He wafted the air and the smoke/steam left the room.

Both occupants looked around for anyone, but the room was empty. The safe was opened and the device was gone.

"Shit..." Ren looked inside and narrowed her eyes. "He was after the gravitron ray." She went back toward the opening and walked out again. The sky was threatening to snow again. John buttoned up his shirt as best he could with whatever buttons weren't broken from the Claw pulling it apart. His jacket was a lost cause.

"Where did he go?" Quimby asked them as they rounded the corner.

"We don't know, but he took Mary's gravitron ray." John informed the chief. The poor man looked horrified.

"How did he even..."

"Blood, my blood. He took control of my body and used my blood to open it. Being twins and all." John informed the man. Quimby turned around as they heard an explosion. A large plumb of smoke caused the sky to darken. The chief grabbed the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"Alright, we gotta follow him. Call up the local chapter and get them after him too. This needs to be a..." He turned just as soon as the car with Ren and Penny in it sped off toward the city.

"Hey! Get back here Gadget!" He received no answer. This man was pissed off.

"Once we get there, I want you two to stay in the car. Do not follow me." John told her. Ren nodded as she held Penny to her. A bottle in hand feeding the infant as best she could while the car swerved, and jotted.

"I'm not dumb, taking a baby into a firefight. We'll stay here, no questions asked." She smiled as the car pulled up to what looked like the federal reserve. The safe door floated past the car and hit the skating rink across the street. Luckily it was later at night and no one was there. She hoped.

John opened the door and climbed out. Ren called out for him, he stuck his head back in.

"Stay safe..." John just smiled and winked at her.

John ran inside looking around. There were bars of gold, bags of money, and sleeves of coins scattered around. He could hear laughing. The henchmen laughed as he ran into the room.

"Put your hands up!" he held up his finger, the laser primed and ready.

"Hey boss! The idiots here...uh...boss?" John looked around, just where was Claw? The man was there a second ago. He turned just in time to see the car door hit the side of the wall.

"Give it back!" Claw's voice echoed in the marble filled lobby. Just what could she have taken to be useful to Claw?

"No!" She ran out of sight and Claw gave chase. John had to catch up.
