Go go gadget

Ren wasn't sure what got into her, all she knew was when she saw Claw put down the remote for the gravitron she needed to take it. She walked into the building. Slowly picked it up and ran.

Now she was running from Claw up the street. Being a Sunday there weren't a lot of options for places open so she couldn't just go inside a place and ask for help. So she did the next best thing, she went up an emergency exit of a building under construction. If she was lucky the top floor door would be unlocked.

To Claws horror she was quite nimble, luckily for Ren she was able to keep hold of Penny who was crying as they ran. She wanted to stop and comfort the poor thing, but here they were being chased by a man holding a gun.

The very few people on the street parted ways like Moses and the sea. Ren had hoped they would help to slow him down, but it didn't work.

"Claw let us go!" she tried.

"Give me the remote and I'll let you live." His voice echoed along the glass walls of the buildings around them. Just how many floors had they gone up?

Finally at the top floor Ren ran across the roof and tried to open the door. It was locked too. She ran across the roof and looked over, she was so far away from the next building. She was trapped.

"Come on doctor, give it to me...NOW!" Ren jumped up and ran across to the crane that overstretched the building.

"No...please just...leave us alone." She tried. Claw climbed up just behind her following her out onto the long arm. Claw smiled as he saw the tears staining the young woman's cheeks.

"You just had to get into it didn't you? You could have just left well enough alone and survived the ordeal. What's worse is...you let my daughter into it too." daughter?

"Who...?" She looked at the man as he pulled his hood back to reveal his face. "George you son of a..."

"Language my dear doctor...now...the remote if you please." He held up a gun and fired it. The bullet grazed the woman's arm. She gasped and her mechanical arm popped and sputtered.

"NO...no no!" Ren yelled out trying her best to keep hold of Penny as she backed away from the man with the gun.

"Next it'll be the girl." Ren was shaking and shivering. She slipped on a patch of ice and fell over the side. Her damaged mechanical arm clung to the wire along the side of the crane.

"Help!" She cried out. Frantically holding onto the infant to her chest. In her head she was going to die and take the only thing keeping John sane.

Claw looked down at the woman who looked up at him pleadingly.

"Help? No ones going to come save you now. Give me the remote...and I'll let you both live." Ren shook her head, she really didn't want to, but Penny didn't ask for this. Slowly pushed Penny toward him. Claw reached down to get the infant. He had every intention of throwing them over once he got that remote anyways. What's wrong with being nice for five minutes?

"Good girl..." he chuckled, his fingers grazing the sleeper just as Ren's arm beeped and gave out. "No!" he yelled, grappling for the falling infant.

"Help!" The wind blew past them as they raced toward the ground. Ren felt sick to her stomach, she hated this feeling, and she'd never want to deal with it again. She curled in around Penny. Her last ditch effort to save her. "I'm sorry..." She whispered to her.

She felt a rush of wind and the feeling of falling slowed. She slowly opened her eyes to see John looking down at them. The blades of a helicopter right over him. Fear in his eyes, wow he had a pair of beautiful gray eyes.

"Is she alright?" John asked. Ren looked down at the girl who seemed to be more interested in the view now then the fact that she almost just died.

"You figured out the helicopter." Ren smiled at the machine as it cut through the air back onto the roof.

"Yeah, it felt weird coming out of my skull. Might be a better idea to uh...wear a hat in the future. Might scare the kids." John set her down on the roof and went toward where he saw Claw last on the crane.

Claw was nowhere to be seen.

"Got away...damn..." John growled looking down at Penny who seemed to be falling asleep now. All that excitement.
