Chapter 9

Two days later....

"The phase is now officially over!!!" An intercom said. "Whoa, whoa! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" The loud intercom caused me to fall out of the tree I was sleeping in. Killua was sitting on the ground and keeping watch since he couldn't sleep.

I was falling straight to the ground and I just knew I was gonna die but then I saw my glimmer of light. KILLUA!!! He held his arms out for me to fall into. I fell into his arms bridal style and I felt myself blush a little. "Killua! You saved my life!" I said dramatically.

"Whatever. Come on. The exam is over now. We only have an hour to get back, so we better hurry." Kil said. "Okay!"

We got back to the starting place and Ms. Kahara was checking everyone's badges. Naturally me and Kil passed and 5 other applicants.

"So only 7 applicants passed huh?" Kahara said. "Oh wait! Three more! You're certainly cutting it close, aren't you?" We all turned back to see Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio walking. "Gon!" Me and Kil said at the same time.

Killua gave Gon a thumbs up and Gon gave him one back. "Now the last three! They are, number 404, Mr. Kurapika, number 403, Mr. Leorio, and number 405, Ms. Gon! These are the 10 applicants that have passed.

We were now on an airship going to the final phase. Me and Killua were looking out a window alone. "Hey Kil. Did you see that Hisoka didn't have his badge at the last exam?" I asked. "Hm? Really? I didn't notice. Does that mean Gon managed to get his badge?" Kil said.

I nodded my head. "Yeah. I saw Gon show Hisoka's badge when Ms. Kahara was announcing that they had passed. Pretty cool huh!?" I said. "I guess." Just then a speaker came on and I recognized the voice to be Beans's voice.

"Attention everyone! The chairman wishes to interview you." "Interview?" I said. "When you hear your number, come to the reception room on the second floor. We'll start with number 44, Mr. Hisoka." Beans finished. "This should be interesting." I said looking at the ceiling.

It was finally my turn. I went to the reception room to find Mr. Netero sitting there. "We meet again, huh." I said. "So it would seem. I'm going to ask you a couple of questions. Please, sit down. To start with, why do you want to become a hunter?"

"Why do I want to become a hunter? Well that's an easy question. I heard that you can travel all across the world luxuriously with a hunter's license, and I want to explore the world!!!" I said excitedly.

"Hmm. Okay, moving on . Which of the other 9 applicants are you keeping a close eye on?" "I'm keeping my eye on number 99, Killua. He made me a promise, and I care about him a lot." I answered.

"Alright, last question. Which of the other 9 applicants would you least want to fight?" "Which would I least want to fight? Man that's a hard one. I don't really want to fight Gon, Killua, or Hisoka, but I guess if I had to choose... it'd be Hisoka." I said.

" This is more lopsided than I expected. Very well. That'll be all."

We arrived at the exam site and were standing in a big room with Netero in front of us.

"Well, is everyone rested up? Good. Now then, the Hunter exam committee runs this hotel. So I want all of you to make yourselves at home until the battles have concluded." Netero said.

"Battles! So we're going to be fighting each other!?" I said, surprised. "Yes, that's right." Someone in a black suit and black glasses came rolling out a board with a sheet covering it. "For the final phase of the Hunter exam, you'll be competing in a one on one tournament." Netero said.

Everyone gasped as he pulled the sheet off the board revealing a tournament bracket. "Hold on a second. So only the last person standing passes?" Leorio asked. "No. You only need one win to pass this phase." Netero said.
