One year had passed since the last major event in the happy couple's lives, and still they were unsure of where to live. Both owned their own accommodation in the city within reach of their work situations and neither were willing to sell, even though it was usually Wei's house where they spent most of their time.

One morning, Yunlan received a letter from the family lawyer which was a bit of a shock or surprise, depending on what way you looked at it because he didn't know that he had a family lawyer, but apparently yes, there was one. Not only that but the firm had worked for the family forever. When he was ready to retire, the son would take his place, therefore the same family in the legal profession was the firm who looked after the Zhao family. The letter was about an inheritance of a mansion with the staff included.

The letter explained that the mansion had been the property of the Zhao family since it was built and was handed down to the next descendant when the owner died or relinquished his ownership. The terms of ownership stated that it could never be sold outside the family and the servants would never be replaced by their non-relatives. Yunlan was the next in line to take ownership of the mansion and this was an invitation to view the house.

Yunlan's first thought was that, there must be a catch somewhere or it was a scam to illicit money, but he checked the background of the family firm of lawyers and found out that they were an honourable, hard working firm, so he phoned Wei at the university and explained, bringing the letter with him when they met for lunch. They had chosen a small café near the university with private seating available towards the rear where they could sit and talk.

Wei watched as Yunlan walked towards him in the same casual manner that fooled people into thinking that his mind matched the speed of his walk and he smiled at his deviousness. Yunlan leaned over an kissed Wei before he sat down and gave him the letter to read while the waiter brought him his usual cup of coffee.

"What do you think professor? They are legitimate, I did a background check, its for real. At least can we go and look at it?"

Shen Wei couldn't say no and if it was as old as it was supposed to be, there could be a history attached to it and he loved any kind of history. So Yunlan contacted the layer to make arrangements for their viewing and all three landed on the doorstep of the empty mansion two weeks later. The staff had been given time off while the new owner was agreed on, and would be informed when they had to return. The young lawyer who had recently taken over from his father, gave Yunlan the key but refused to enter the mansion explaining that he wasn't allowed at present. Strange, Wei thought but watched as he went back to sit and wait in his car while Wei and Yunlan looked around inside.

The entrance hall or Reception was huge with a cold marble floor which led to the beautiful original staircase, wrought iron and more marble stairs. Yunlan saw the small corridor to the right of the staircase which led to the kitchen but to the left, the corridor led to the library and it's double white entry doors.
