In his bedroom Yunlan was trying to rise for work, but he was having problems with his balance and this headache had been constant, without ease, even when he was asleep. In normal circumstances, he would have taken something for it but didn't, thinking that possibly Chu had something a bit stronger that would work, so he made his way to the bathroom to wash and shave, finding it too difficult and dangerous to try this morning, so no shave today.
After some breakfast and still staggering, he stepped out for some fresh air and was not aware of the four night shift workers going home when he walked in to them. Disgusted and accusing him of drinking so early in the morning, they attempted to attack and rob him, thinking that he would be too drunk to put up a fight but two of the guards appeared in his defence, terrifying the workers, and gently guided Yunlan back indoors towards the laboratory where he could see Chu and ask about the headache medication, but met Shen Wei first.
"Bad night?" he asked when knowing that it had been.
Yunlan answered, "Feeling awful, this damned headache won't let up, and I couldn't trust myself to shave without cutting my own throat this morning."
Wei guided him towards the bathroom and sat him down.
"I can do it, just sit down there and don't move."
Yunlan sat down willingly enjoying the close contact with Wei that he had missed while he was injured, and staring into those beautiful brown eyes he asked,
"What did I ever do to deserve you, I couldn't live without you, nor would I want to."
Shen Wei listened, and he knew it was true. Yunlan felt relaxed in the chair, leaning backwards with his head tilted up, enjoying the gentleness of his lover carefully shaving, then caressing his face, checking for any roughness that he may have missed while using the blade, and then slowly massaging the moisturiser into his skin, as he lay with his eyes closed almost drifting back to sleep. But Shen Wei was his target, he had to kill him to live. The problem was to trick Yunlan into thinking that he had killed him, releasing him from the orders engraved deep in his subconscious. In the background, Chu and Da Qing were having a heated discussion about dead mice, which was enough to bring him back to the real world and begin his work on the virus.
The morning session had passed, Chu had done some blood work on random samples collected from soldiers before their deaths, looking for anything that would help the others still alive, while Yunlan was involved with the paperwork, keeping accurate records was imperative. Today was not going well for him, continually making adjustments to correct mistakes, he felt as if he was doing everything twice and becoming very tired. His movements were getting more sluggish and this never ending noisy headache was beginning to affect his hearing, making it awkward in conversations when he misheard words and had to ask for a repeat.
Da Qing was the 'office boy', the runner who found the lost, made the tea and watched Yunlan for signs of tiredness or distress, and Shen Wei could see everyone, so when he got a signal from Da Qing, the work was halted for a break. Yunlan was in no condition to work today, even although he was pushing himself hard, the mistakes were getting more and more obvious, forcing him to stop. He looked over at Wei who didn't need to be told, he was beside him in a blink of an eye,
