it's been a few days since zuko's coronation, and so far, team avatar had just been planning the harmony restoration movement with earth King kuei.
aang had also made liara tell the rest of the group about what happened at the genocide, so that there were no more secrets within them that could cause infighting.
it hadn't been stressful yet, but zuko seemed to be under a lot of pressure from being the new firelord. liara could tell.
as liara stood outside of the earth King's palace in ba sing se, feeding diki, zuko approached her.
"liara," he said and the girl turned. "oh hey.." she slowed seeing the look on the teenager's face, "zuko. what's wrong?"
"I visited my father in prison the other day," he started, speaking slowly and clearly, "and I need you to promise me something."
Liara wanted to say 'of course,' but the look on zuko's face made her change her words. "what?"
"just promise you'll do it," he pressed, seeming almost desperate.
"fine. but I can't promise anything unless you tell me what I have to do, zuko." she said defensively.
"if you ever see me turning into my father, I need you to kill me right then and there."
Liara's eyes widened, immediately regretting agreeing to it before knowing what she had to do.
"what? no!" she yelped, her brows knitting together and her pupils constricting.
"please, liara! promise me! I can't have the fire nation under that kind of lead again!" the firelord pleaded with the girl and she gave in.
Liara knew that the only reason that he asked her instead of aang was the fact that she had killed before, and was seemingly comfortable with it seeing as she almost killed two more firebenders on the day of the comet.
"okay. I promise." she sighed. she really didn't want to do this.
"thank you,"
Liara looked at zuko with a scowl, "but please, zuko. don't make me do anything I'll regret."

one year later.
Liara and aang were helping an older fire nation colony unload into a new area in the fire nation town when some soldiers approached them.
"stop unloading! all colonials should return to the earth kingdom by order of the fire lord!"the captain yelled loudly.
Liara looked at him strangely, "why?"
"fire lord zuko has officially withdrawn his support of the harmony restoration movement." the man said, shoving a piece of paper into liara's face.
the girl quickly scanned over the document, a frown forming on her face when she saw zuko's signature at the bottom of the parchment.
this was strange. zuko always talked about restoring the fire nation's honour, but now he was withdrawing his support from the harmony restoration movement?
oh hell no. liara was not going to let this slide. she was going to smack some sense into that angsty firebender.
"guys!" she yelled to her friends. "we're heading to yu dao. katara, mount appa and let's go!"
katara and sokka rode together on appa while aang and Liara were both on diki's head.
"what do you think is up with zuko?" aang asked, his arm lazily slung around liara's waist. he noted that her back muscles were tensed from stress, and her began rubbing circles on her back to relax her.
