Callum seemed to be only half awake as he and Rayla traversed to the throne room. He hadn't been getting much sleep, considering how nervous he was. He had barely blinked the night away. Rayla had been up all night planning. She was closing her eyes as they walked. Callum yawned a great, big yawn. "Are you okay?" Rayla asked. "I'm alright. I just need to rest my eyes while we walk," he joked.
He stretched his back. He had the perfect plan. On his birthday, he would take Rayla out on, I don't know, a picnic. They would eat, talk for a while. Then it would be time. He nodded to himself. Rayla wished she knew what he was thinking. She had a plan, too. Whatever Callum wanted to do on his birthday, she would go, and then she would ask her question there. Little did either of them know... they both had the same plan. The same question.
Callum tried to push his fatigue down with more fatigue on top of it, but it didn't work. He was just as tired as usual. He walked with Rayla in comfortable silence. The only thing that could be heard was their boots hitting the floor. Rayla spoke first. "Are you positive you're getting enough sleep?" "Yeah. I'm just nervous about something, that's all." "Can I ask what it is?" "You can ask, but I won't answer. It's a surprise." She looked at him with confusion.
They approached the throne room doors. Ezran stood as they walked in. "High Mage. Welcome. As most of us know, your birthday is tomorrow. We were going to plan something fun to do! All of the high council." Callum groaned internally. This certainly did throw a wrench in his plans. He knew he could still get some time with Rayla afterwards, right?
Ezran went over every possible place they could go. Callum stood and listened. He considered it for a moment, then told Ezran his response. A simple one, of course. A small party in the courtyard. Ez nodded and excused him. Rayla yawned. Man, she was tired.
As Callum strode through the halls, he heard guards shouting and wood shattering from across the halls. Near the front doors. He sped toward them. Claudia. He held a mighty spell. Callum gasped. Half her hair was... white. She continued to strangle guards in her wake. She turned to Callum. "Ah! Just the mage I wanted to see," she voiced, menacingly as she approached him. An anxious-looking earthblood elf watched her from afar. A man was with him. Callum tried desperately to see past Claudia and find out who this man is. He wished he hadn't. Viren.

Fanfiction"What if Rayla never left?" Yup. This story answers that question! Or, at least, it tries. I have been contemplating for FAR too long. "Hmm.. I want to make this book." But I never did. So now, I'm going to.
