Should I?

Finally, their day at work ended. Well, Callum's did. Prince Grark of Duren could not have chosen a worse time to speak with Ezran. Finally, Rayla walked through the doors. Immediately, Callum was overwhelmed with the weighing guilt of not talking to her before. But, luckily, his girlfriend wasn't one to hold a grudge. "Hey," she said casually. "Hi," he sighed. "Cold in here." "Yeah. Kind of is." Truth is, Callum believed it was quite warm, but he was not in a mood to disagree with Rayla.

"Sorry," he mumbled. Rayla looked at Callum like he was crazy. "For what?" "For not responding this morning. I'm just... nervous. Really nervous. For that thing I have to do. Remember?" Rayla thought back. He had said something about being nervous about doing something. "You’re fine. Trust me, there are plenty of things I'm nervous for. Your mind might have been in a different place this morning. That's okay."

Callum nodded. "So... What did Aanya's brother-" "Grark." "Right, Grark, want to talk about." "I'd tell you, but he was very specific as he told us," She deepened her voice and did her best to imitate Grark's growly, deep tone. "What happens in this throne room, stays in this throne room." Callum laughed.

A small shadow stopped in front of their door. Instead of the knock they were expecting, they got a horrid scraping sound. Then the sound of someone chasing said shadow. "Sir Sparklepuff!" came a voice with an Australian accent. Then, a more familiar voice. "Wait!" Terry and Claudia chased their homunculus around the castle.

Later, Callum grew weary. His eyelids became heavier and heavier by the second, and soon, he was asleep.

"Rayla? Ez?" Callum called into the vast darkness. There was nothing in any direction. "Anyone?" Then, a strange, but familiar, voice spoke. "I am here. You aren't alone." He would recognize that voice anywhere, though he hadn't heard it in years. "Mom?"  Suddenly she appeared in front of him. Relief grasped him. His mom was... alive? But it was not to last. She faded away. All that was left now was Callum and his thoughts. All his thoughts. "Should I? Should I? Should I?"

It seemed like days had passed when he finally opened his eyes. He sighed. Today was that day off he had asked Ez for. But Callum was too tired to stand. Rayla was awake, sitting next to the bed, sharpening her blades. Callum remembered the plans he had for today. Still, the thought rang in his head. Should I? Should I? Another thought intruded. Could I?
