I wake up grunting when my cat pokes my face with his. I give him a headscratch and go on my business as always.

Giving him his food, showering, eating breakfast, you know, the usual morning routine.

As I eat my breakfast at my small dinner table, I decide to multitask. I open my laptop and take a look at my e-mails. My boss answered me and I dread to read her e-mail.

' Dear Séverine,

We are so sorry to see you go. Even though we're sorry to see you go, you will still have to work your two weeks of notice.

If you could finish up the manuscript of the book of your client by then, that would be highly appreciated.

We're glad you have worked for us for these past few months. If you ever need a reference, don't hesitate to give your new employers our number and e-mail.

We await you formal paper resignation.

We sincerely wish you all the best with your future employment.

Greetings,

Ophelia Daniels

I sigh in relief as they don't seem to hold it against me much. Of course I would finish my translation of the manuscript I'm actively translating, I keep my word. Always.

A small smile crept up my cheeks as I read over the e-mail once more. I actually liked working for them. The pay was more than I needed to cover my basic expenses, the people I interracted with were nice, overall I don't regret it a minute.

I finish up my breakfast, put on my shoes and jacket. I'm always cold, and even though it's like sixty-four degrees outside and I now it's only going to go up, I need a jacket. It's still like eight fifteen A.M and that means I will get cold if I don't put an extra layer on.

I grab my letter, my bag and head out the door. I put one earbud in and put my playlist on shuffle. The postal office is a twenty minute walk from my apartment, but I don't care. I could definitely use the extra steps today. Especially after all the food I had yesterday.

I slightly bob my head to the beat of the music as I make my way to the postal office. L.A isn't always busy, but being a weekday and it being eight thirty four A.M means it is, a lot of people are in a hurry. Some are definitely in a rush to drop their kids off, some are on their way to work, and some are quite clearly already preparing their groceries and purchases/decorations for Thanksgiving. Now, no hate on Thanksgiving, but personally, I'm not American so I never celebrated Thanksgiving before. Just like they don't celebrate Saint Nick's day on december sixth here, and by that I don't mean Christmas, but Saint Nick's, it's a whole different thing. Kinda similar, but different.

As I look at the elderly couple that just exits the store I'm passing by, I feel my phone vibrating. I take my phone out of my pocket and look at the screen, stopping in front of a house, to make sure I don't walk into anyone. I have one new message. I open the message app and smile when I see it's from Wolfgang.

From Novogratz:

" Hey, how did you sleep last night?

When do you want me to come by tomorrow? I don't know if you already planned a specific time with my mom, so just let me know, and I'll be there. "

I smile at the text. Of course I e-mailed back and forth with his mom. She seems great, really. We decided to have the meeting at nine A.M in L.A, so it would be eleven A.M in New York. Back in Belgium I never had to worry about timezones. I guess I'll have to always have that in the back of my mind now.
