A/N - I'm so sorry. I would have had this up early today, but I was busy this morning buying a new car. Also, I'm blown away by the response to this story! I can tell we're gonna have fun with this one.
They all rushed out of the TARDIS. Smoke was billowing out the doors.
Elise had only seen the TARDIS in this state two times before. Once when her and the Doctor had crashed in Amy's backyard and second, when Melody shot the rotor.
The Doctor used a fire extinguisher to put out some of the sparks.
"The funny thing is, for a spaceship, she doesn't really do that much flying. We'd better give her a couple of hours. You all right?" the Doctor asked Donna.
"Doesn't matter."
"Did we miss it?" Donna sighed.
"Yeah."
"Well, you can book another date."
"Course we can."
"You've still got the honeymoon."
"It's just a holiday now."
"Yeah. Yeah. Sorry."
"It's not your fault."
"Oh? That's a change."
"Wish you had a time machine, then we could go back and get it right."
Elise snorted, but covered it up as a cough.
"Yeah, yeah. But even if I did, I couldn't go back on someone's personal timeline. Apparently," the Doctor said, looking at the younger redhead.
Donna sat on the edge of the roof.
The Doctor took off his suit jacket and put it around her shoulders, before sitting down next to her.
"God, you're skinny. This wouldn't fit a rat," Donna said.
Elise sat on the other side of the Doctor.
They stared out at London.
Elise wondered if her father and Clara were somewhere down below, unaware of her presence. She hoped they were still out there having adventures.
The Doctor pulled out a gold ring. "Oh and you'd better put this on."
Donna rolled her eyes. "Oh, do you have to rub it in?"
"Those creatures can trace you. This is a bio-damper. Should keep you hidden." He placed it on Donna's finger. "With this ring, I thee bio-damp."
The whole "exchanging of rings" never made sense to Elise, especially after seeing River and her father get married.
"For better or for worse. So, come on then. Robot Santa's, what are they for?"
"Ah, your basic robo scavenger. The Father Christmas stuff is just a disguise. They're trying to blend in. I met them last Christmas."
"Why, what happened then?"
"Great big spaceship hovering over London? You didn't notice?"
"I had a bit of a hangover."
"I spent Christmas Day just over there, the Powell Estate, with this family. My friend...she had this family." The Doctor went quiet, making an concerted effort to not look at the rose on Elise's neck. "Well, they were. Still, gone now."
"Your friend, who was she?"
The Doctor avoided the question. "Question is, what do camouflaged robot mercenaries want with you? And how did you get inside the TARDIS? I don't know. What's your job?"
