A/N - Hello everyone! I'm back after suffering from serious burnout and other mental health issues. Updates will still be slow, but I'm hoping will be more frequent. This is one of my least favorite two-parters, which is why I think I've been struggling so much because I really just wanna get to "Utopia" so our lovers can finally meet properly.
"Why are you helping them?" Elise asked the Doctor, "They don't deserve it."
"They want to evolve."
"What's to stop them from trying to take over the galaxy again?"
She knew this wouldn't work. The Paradigm Daleks would still exist. They'd still put herself and the Doctor into the Pandorica.
"How old are you?" he asked her.
"I fail to see how that matters."
"Well in my 900 years of existence, I've learned that most people aren't above redemption."
Daleks didn't deserve redemption, along with Madame Kovarian.
"They killed our people!"
"And so have I!"
That took Elise back to House. When he told her for the first time that he was responsible for killing the Timelords.
"Am I not above redemption?"
"No. I mean, yes, but that's not what I meant..."
The Doctor turned away from her and she felt her hearts break a little.
Elise stared at the wall. Willing herself not to cry at a time like this.
"There's no point in chromosomal grafting, it's too erratic. You need to split the genome and force the Dalek human sequence right into the cortex," the Doctor told Sec.
"We need more chromatin solution."
"The pig slaves have it."
The pigmen carried in a carte.
"These pig slaves, what happens to them in the grand plan?"
"Nothing. They're just simple beasts. Their lifespan is limited. None survive beyond a few weeks. Power up the line feeds."
The Doctor walked over to the corner where Elise was standing. She was glaring at the wall like a child who had been put in the corner for misbehaving.
He wrapped his hand around her and she looked down at their hands. "I'm sorry," he said, "For yelling at you. Obviously you're going through some stuff right now. I should've been more understanding."
Elise laughed. She'd gone from a man who never apologized to a man who apologized for something that wasn't really his fault. Elise didn't even notice that her laughter had turned to sobs until he wrapped his arms around her.
The moment he cradled the back of her head and placed a kiss on her forehead, her walls came crumbling down. Everything she'd held in since her father regenerated came pouring out. All the sadness and frustration of missing her father. The sweet and caring one who loved her more than anything in the universe.
The Doctor said nothing. He only held her and let her cry.
When she pulled away, he wiped the remaining tears with the cuffs of his sleeves.
"I'm sorry," she said.
"Never apologize for crying. You clearly needed it."
Elise managed a small smile.
