A/N - Welcome back! I just needed a break from posting and time to focus on other creative pursuits. I'm kind of excited for these two episodes, just because of all the trauma that Elise is trying to unpack due to being in Manhattan again.

The trio stepped out of the TARDIS.

"Where are we?" Martha asked.

"Ah, smell that Atlantic breeze. Nice and cold. Lovely. Martha, Elise, have you met my friend?" the Doctor asked.

They turned around and saw the Statue of Liberty.

Immediately, Elise's hearts started thundering in her chest. She bolted back inside of the TARDIS and sat on the jump seat, trying to calm herself down.

"Is that? Oh, my God. That's the Statue of Liberty!" Martha exclaimed. She turned to say something to Elise, but noticed she was gone. "Elise?"

The Doctor glanced back inside the TARDIS and saw her. He went back into the TARDIS and found her sitting on the jump seat. "Not coming?" he asked.

Elise shook her head. She never wanted to come back to New York City again. Not after what had happened to Amy and Rory.

"It'll be fun", he told her.

She shook her head again.

He knelt down in front of her and put his hands on her knees. "Now, I don't know why you're in a mood all of a sudden..."

She shoved his hands off of her and turned away from him. "Because the last time I was here, I lost my family", she told him, "Just go without me".

Never let him see the damage.

"Come on. I'll be right by your side the entire time." The Doctor stood up and put out his hand.

Elise took it and they stepped back outside.

"Hey, everything okay?" Martha asked.

"When are we?" Elise asked.

"1930", Martha said, holding out a newspaper.

1930. They were 8 years before the paradox.

Elise briefly wondered if River was close. She'd give anything to see her mother right now. "Do you have a cell phone I could use?" Elise asked.

The Doctor handed her one and she stepped away from them to dial River's number.

"Elise, sweetie. What's wrong?" she asked.

Elise sniffled and wiped her eyes.

"Ellie, you can tell me anything. You know it won't get back to your father", River said.

"I, umm, I'm traveling. And I'm in Manhattan".

There was silence on River's end.

"I didn't do anything stupid; I promise. It's about eight years before the paradox." She didn't know which River she was talking to, but clearly this one had already been to Manhattan.

"You didn't go there with your father, did you?" River asked.

Elise looked at the Doctor and Martha, who were talking. "...Not exactly."

River sighed. "Please be careful. I won't be there for a few more years."

"I understand. I love you River."

"I love you too, sweetie".

Elise hung up and wiped her face with her sleeves. She walked back over to the Doctor and Martha.
