His Mark
[Knowledge is Power]

I woke up to total darkness.
''What the-'' I started to say, but was abruptly cut off short by the rather annoyed sounding voice of the nurse.

''You've had a visitor during your stay here, I believe her name was Miss Yaxley, she was the one who found you unconscious...and she also seemed to have an unhealthy fascination with your hair... '' The nurse said after having cast a silent lumos.
The damn woman scared me half to death!
Let's just hope that she didn't notice.

Why did I have to be found unconscious by that girl of all people, and what did this wretched woman mean by unhealthy fascination?

''Up you go now!''
The nurse said practically shooing me out of the Hospital Wing.

I quickly got up packing my few belongings together, and closed the door behind me as I left.

Rushing through the corridors with quick steps, I attracted some curious glances from the other students. Well I can't really blame them, I'm the only one wearing a plain black cloak.

But there are more important things right now, like how in the world am I supposed to get to the headmasters' office?

When I turned around the corner and the entrance to the school tower came into view, I relaxed my shoulders and evened my pace.

Is the statue just going to let me pass if I say why I'm here for?

I encouraged myself in silence and watched in wonder as the guardians of the door move aside for me without comment and how the stairs manifested themselves.
Once upstairs, I knocked hesitantly on the heavy wooden door and waited for the; "Come in,".

"I'm glad that you're feeling better Mr. Vauxhall."
The Headmaster said in a friendly tone.
''I'm alright sir, I just got a little lightheaded.''
I replied slightly impatient.
''I seem to be boring you half to death Mr.Vauxhall. Take a seat on that chair over there and place the Sorting Hat on your head.'' Said the Headmaster smiling slightly.

I sat on the mentioned chair, took a deep breath, and reluctantly placed the hat on my head.

'A Riddle...hmm or a Gaunt..You're a sly one, yes you are.'
I heard the amused voice of the hat in my head.
'I see a lot of intelligence and knowledge, knowledge of dark magic, courage and great thirst for power.'
The hat said thoughtfully.
'The decision is really not difficult.'

'Don't place me in Slytherin!'
I thought frantically, silently praying to whatever God could help me get out of this mess.

"What?" The Sorting Hat was audibly confused about the interruption.
'Don't put me in Slytherin!'
'Why not? You're perfect for Slytherin.'
'But I don't want to be sorted into Slytherin!'

'Listen, kid, I'm responsible for the sorting of the students. That's my job, the only one I have. The only one I can take over the entire year. So don't tell me what to do!'
The hat took a deep breath seemingly ready to announce my house.

'I promise you, every year that I spend here, I'll polish you so that you'll shine like never before. Just don't place me in Slytherin!' I lied through my teeth.
'Hm... Polish you say? With grease and stuff?'
The Sorting Hat slipped slightly back and forth on my head.
'Promise?'
'I promise, just don't place me into Slytherin.'
I said, or rather thought fervently.
'Okay, kid, the next time I see you, you better have a big tube of grease with you.'

''RAVENCLAW!''

I took the hat of my head and looked down at my now Ravenclaw robes.

''I just sent for Mr. Trent, a fellow Ravenclaw to accompany you to the common room.''
Said The Headmaster seemingly unaware of the events that had just taken place right in front of his nose.

''Thank you Headmaster.''

''Oh and Mr. Vauxhall-''

''With all due respect Headmaster, Vauxhall was the synonym that was given to me at the Orphan because I was abandoned near Vauxhall street.'' I answered, with a what I hoped looked like a sincere expression.

''My surname is Gaunt. My mother had left a piece of parchment tucked inside the blanket that I was covered with, with the instructions to name me Aileen Morfin Gaunt before she passed. My father was Avery Marvolo Gaunt, descendant of Morfin Gaunt... The process for me to legally have the Gaunts family name should be done by sunday...at least that's what the Goblin at Gringotts assured me off...''
He didn't have to know that Scorpius Malfoy was helping me speed up the process...at least not until I knew why he was helping me.

The Headmaster looked slightly taken aback for a second.
''Ah, yes...my apologies, I just assumed...''

''It's quite alright,'' I answered with a fake smile.

''I shall meet this Trent boy you mentioned...I feel like my headache is coming back. Good day Headmaster.''
I closed the door behind me with a wicked smile on my face.
That fool of a Headmaster actually believed me!

Everything was going according to plan

Aileen was pleased when he finally sat in the blue-silver decorated Ravenclaw common room with large, soft wingback chairs and comfortable sofas, running his hand through the soft fur of his cat Momo and enjoying the warmth of a crackling fire in the fireplace.

He was pleased with the decision of the Sorting Hat.

Simon had shown Aileen their dormitory and shown him where the bathrooms are and some of the passages to reach the common room faster.

He had also told him about the scoring system of Hogwarts, they received points for good performance and also got points deducted from teachers for poor performance or smaller to greater offenses, and supposedly could win a House Cup at the end of the school year.
He had described the library in colorful, seemingly endless versions and then they finally went into the common room after solving a riddle.

They talked a little, but Aileen could hardly concentrate.
There were too many new impressions buzzing in his head and it was not long before he said goodbye to Simon and James Salyer another boy in their year, to spend his first night at Hogwarts.
