What do you mean the Cancer is back? Fatima asked. Doctor Stevens knew this conversation he was about to have with Fatima would be difficult. Doctor Stevens cleared his throat and said, "Fatima, you know when we first started this journey, I explained to you that there was a fifty percent chance that the Cancer would return."
Fatima: I know what you said, Doctor Stevens, but I thought the outcome would be different this time. Doctor Stevens could see the tears in Fatima's eyes, and his heart was heavy because he, too, thought that they were going to beat this Cancer this time around.
Doctor Stevens: Yes, I understand this is not the news you were hoping for, but I'm not giving up on you, and you need to keep hope alive. I want to see you back here in a week to see how far the Cancer has progressed.
Fatima: Alright, Doctor Stevens. I will see you next week. Enjoy the rest of your day. Thank you again for everything.
Doctor Stevens: It's my pleasure, Fatima. You remember what I said now! Fatima, I will Doctor Stevens. Fatima left the doctor's office and headed to her car. What the hell am I supposed to do now? Fatima asks herself. Heavenly Father, I know you do not put anything on us that we cannot bear, but, lord Jesus God, I'm so tired Fatima says, letting the tears stream down her face.
Fatima was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer about a year ago, and let's say it's been hard on her, mainly because she has not told any one of her diagnosis. I know what you guys are thinking: "Why haven't you told your family yet, Fatima."? I cannot muster up the courage to see the look on my parent's face. When I tell them I have Cancer, and I have been dealing with it alone for over a year, and that treatments are not working.
Fatima: I cannot believe that just at the young age of 21 years old I'm dying the fuck. .... I haven't even experienced life yet to the fullest. Damn, for that matter, I haven't experienced real fucking love. Fatima had just recently broken up with her ex-boyfriend Alex; let's just say he was not for her... that nigga ain't shit with his cheating, low-down dirty ass. Fatima let that two-timing bastard go when she found him cheating in their shared apartment with some nasty ass stripper from the poll.
Anyway, enough about that goofy ass nigga. I have bigger things to concern myself with. I'm supposed to return home to North Carolina to visit my family for my dad's 50th birthday party this weekend. The only person who knows I have Cancer is my best friend Angela, and that was only because she found out about it by accident when she picked up my cell phone one day and the doctor's office was calling to reschedule my appointment. I will say this: Angela has been my rock during this difficult time. Speaking of Angela, she's calling me right now.
Angela: Yeah, Girl, how did your doctor's appointment go this morning? Fatima sighed, "Girl, not good. Doctor Stevens told me that the treatment was not working and that he needed to see me again within a week to run some more tests.:Angela: Damn, best friend, I'm so sorry to hear that? Is there anything that I can do for you? Unfortunately, no, girl, I'm just praying everything works out in my favor. Angela, girl, I got your back with whatever you need." Fatima says, thank you, girl. I know I can always count on you for whatever. Angela: What's on your agenda for the rest of your day?
Fatima: Bestie, you know I'm flying back home this weekend, it's my dad's birthday. Angela: "You're right, bestie. I forgot you were heading home." Fatima: Yeah, I'm excited to be going back home. I miss my family so much. Angela says, yeah, girl, I know you do. So, are you going to tell them about your diagnosis this weekend? Fatima: Angela, I cannot ruin my father's birthday like that. Fatima, you know you cannot keep hiding this from your family, you know that.
