Chapter 6
What's going on? I can hear machines beeping left and right. I have the biggest headache that I can ever recall. My eyes feel heavy as fuck.... like what is going on? I try moving my legs, but they feel like dead ass weight. I'm trying my hardest to remember what happened to me, but for the life of me, I do not recall at all what happened. God, I hate this shit.... where the hell are my parents and sister? I lean my head back against my pillow, and I try to think about what landed me in the hospital. I remember not feeling well, trying to reach my bedroom door handle, and passing out, and then everything went blank after that. Shit, shit, shit, shit.... If I'm in the hospital, they must know. God, they're going to be so fucking pissed at me for not telling them I'm sick. Not just sick but fuckin dying bitch.... While I'm drowning in my thoughts, I hear the door open and someone saying, " Ms. Wilson, glad to see you are awake, "the young lady says. She introduces herself as Nurse Monica.
Nurse Monica: "Ms. Wilson, how are you feeling right now?
Fatima: "To be completely honest with you, Monica, I feel like shit."
Nurse Monica: That's to be expected since you just regained consciousness since being in a coma since you got here." Fatima: "What do you mean coma? Nurse Monica: I will get Doctor Richards to discuss why you were brought in two nights ago.
Fatima: "All right. "I'm sorry, Monica, but by any chance, are my parents and sister here? Nurse Monica: Yes, they are in the waiting area. They will be happy to know that you are now awake and talking. Fatima: One more question for you, nurse Monica; by any chance, are they now aware of my condition? Nurse Monica: "I believe Doctor Richards did inform them of your diagnoses.
Fatima: "Shit." Nurse Moncia, excuse me one moment Ms. Wilson I'm going to let Doctor Richards know you're awake and let your parents and sister know the same." Fatima: Thank you Monica. I really appreciate you answering all of my questions. Nurse Monica: "Not a problem, Ms. Wilson. The doctor will be in momentarily to speak with you. Fatima watches the young nurse leave, and she sits back and tries to think about how she is going to explain to her parents and sister why she did not let them know she has been battling cancer for over a year now.
God, this will be a difficult conversation I'm about to have with my family. There really is no good excuse for me not to have told them that I'm fighting cancer. While Fatima was in her thoughts, she heard a knock on the door, and it was her mother and father and her sister Anissa. Mona: "Thank God my baby is awake." Jason: "Baby girl, how are you feeling? Fatima: "Hi, Daddy. I'm really tired and have a headache." While speaking to her dad, Fatima notices her sister in the doorway of her room. Fatima: "Come here she says to her sister." Anissa runs to her sister's bedside with tears running down her face. Now seeing her family and how they look distraught and defeated, Fatima realizes that she might have made a big mistake in not telling them from the very start. Fatima: "Baby sis, don't cry. I'm right here with you, and that did it. Anissa breaks down in her sister's arms, crying her heart out.
Anissa: "Fatima, why didn't you tell us you were sick? Fatima puts her head down and tries to gather her thoughts before she speaks. With tears in her eyes, she says, I know you all should have been told of my diagnosis, but for the life of me, how was I going to explain to my family that just at the tender age of 21 years old, I'm dying from Ovarian cancer she says crying with tears now streaming down her face. Fatima's mother, Mona, approaches her daughter and tries to console her as best as possible. Mona: "Sweetheart, I know you are scared, but you must not go through this alone. We are your family, and we love you so much." Fatima: "I know you guys are here, but I just did not know how to tell you guys that I'm sick and not getting better. I haven't been alone. Angela has been there, though. Anissa snaps her head up from her sister's chest and says, What the fuck Angela knows, Fatima? Anissa: "How the fuck does your fat-ass friend knows you are sick before your fucking family? I swear if your ass weren't already in that bed, I would be beating your fuckin ass right here on site.
Mona: "Anissa Nicole, I have had enough of your mouth.... shut your fuckin mouth right this instant.
Fatima: "Ma, it's okay. She has a right to be upset. To answer your question, I did not tell Angela. She picked up my phone one day when the hospital called to reschedule my appointment one day." Fatima: "Nissa, you didn't have to call Angela a name. She has been telling me non-stop to tell you guys what has been going on, but I just couldn't. Jason: "Baby girl, it's all right. Please don't stress yourself out right now. Yes, you didn't tell us what was happening, but the most important thing is that we know now." Fatima: "Mommy and Daddy, I'm so sorry for keeping my condition a secret from you guys. I didn't know how to break y'all's hearts by telling you guys I'm dying of cancer. This entire situation has been highly stressful and even more challenging to keep to myself.
Mona: "We understand, baby. Everything is going to be okay. We are here for you now; that is all that matters."
Anissa:"Yes, sissy. I'm sorry for snapping on you. I love you so much and don't want anything to ever happen to you. "Fatima: "I understand, Nissa. Again, I'm sorry for not disclosing the truth to you all a long time ago." Anissa hugged her sister and told her that she loved her. They all looked towards the door, and it was Doctor Richards. Hello Wilson Family, he says. They all say hello. Hello Fatima, Doctor Richards says. We have some things to discuss at the moment. I'm glad to see you awake by the way.
