Wilbur's P.O.V.
I waited the guy for hours will riding with him in the jeep. I didn't know what was going on or what was going to happen to me. He kept reassuring me that everything was going to be alright, but that never stopped my nerves.
Man's P.O.V.
We finally made it to base. I kept my grip on the boy's hand to make sure that he wouldn't run away. I could tell he was still a bit nervous. I was nervous about what the general would say about him. We went through a door and my face was met by the general. A big, bulky troll with a green uniform.
"Lieutenant"
He greeted.
A saluted.
"Sir, the natives escaped. We tried to track them down and I don't know where they took the villagers."
He looked down at the little boy.
"What of this little one?"
I looked down at him. He looked scared.
"He seems to be the last one. I couldn't find his parents."
The general sighed.
"Alright, then. I'll have to sign a few papers and see if I can get him a boarding pass to to ship him to one of our local orphanages."
I was shocked.
"Sir. With all due respect, I think I'd be okay taking him in, sir. I could raise him."
"And I admire that, Lieutenant, And if it were up to me. I would let you. But it's not safe for him, here. He needs a better family, and better home, away from the war. I'm sorry."
I understood. Here is not a good place for him. I also worried that others would not accept his kind, but I couldn't defy orders.
"Yes, sir."
He gave me a sympathetic look.
"Believe me, son. It's better this way."
I felt sad, but I agreed to it. This place was no place for an orphan boy.
A few days later
We traveled by plane, over seas to an orphanage. The little wolf boy looked at me with concern. It was as if he sensed my emotions. He came up to nestle against me. I smiled and petted his little head. As soon as we made it, I woke him and we both walked up to the door.
"Don't worry, little guy. This'll definitely be a fresh start for you."
I knocked and the owner came up to let me in.
A few minutes later
"Well", said the owner. "This'll really be different for most of the orphans here, but I'll make sure to take care of him and make sure that he has a good home."
"It mean a lot to me, ma'am. He's been through a lot. You need to be gentle, make sure he feels at home, and teach him English."
The owner nodded.
"Of course, I promise."
She looked down to the little guy and smiled.
Wilbur's P.O.V.
After talking with the man, she looked down to me with a gracious smile.
"Hello, little one."
I backed away, a little bit.
She frowned.
"He's a little skittish around strangers. Try sticking your hand out to let him smell you. Just to let him know you're not a threat."
She did that and immediately began to like her already. I let her pet my head as I nuzzled against her.
She laughed with joy.
"Aww, how adorable. I can tell, we're gonna get along just fine."
The man smiled.
"Does he have a name?"
The man frowned.
"I doubt even if he told us his name, it would be in English. I didn't figure one out, yet. Maybe you can or his next parents can--. Wait, I got it. How about Wilbur?"
I beamed at that name.
"Oh, I think he likes it."
"Ma'am, can you please let me say goodbye to him?"
"Of course."
She left, the man came up to me.
"Believe me, I wish I could take you in and raise you like one of my own. But you need a better owner. And I know you'll find someone to take care of you. Goodbye, Wilbur."
I nuzzled against him. He hugged me. Then he let me go and left.
