It was morning as an elf was enjoying his morning coffee. He gave his wife a kiss on the cheek as their son was in the living room playing with his Quests of Yore action figures. Then, he found a newspaper on the table that just came in today. He found an interesting article.

Young Werewolf in Need of Home

The father elf was intrigued.

"Hey, honey, look at this."

They both looked at the picture.

"Aw. How adorable."

"What do you think? It says he needs a good home and family."

"It would be a good deed. And I think Barley would love a little brother to look after."

They both went to see Barley in the living room.

Wilden: Barley, how would you like to adopt a little brother?

Later, at the orphanage

Director: I really appreciate you answering to our add, Mr. Lightfoot. I really hope that today's the day he gets adopted.

Laurel: Well, he sounded really wonderful from what we talked about on the phone. Is there anything we need to know about?

Director: Well, he's still improving on his English but he's still a bit rusty. And he's a bit skittish around other creatures. We tried a lot of families, but he keeps running off. You need to take it slow and try not to get too excited.

Wilden: Got it. Barley?

Barley: Got it, Dad.

Wilden: Alright. Let's meet him.

The director opened the door to Wilbur's room to see him playing with his toys. Wilbur stopped to look at them.

Wilbur's P.O.V.

That was the day I met them. The people who changed my life forever. The people who became my family.

The eldest came down to kneel at my level. I looked at him. He looked like the man who brought me here to the new country. The same kind non-threatening face that would never want to hurt anyone. Except he had a beard.

"Hi."

He said in a kind voice. I looked at him, intrigued.

Director: Reach out your hand. Let him get to know you.

He reach out his hand so that I could smell it. And then I immediately knew he wasn't a threat. I reached out to feel his beard.

Director: It's okay. He's just getting to know you better.

The man chuckled.

Wilden: Yes. I do have hair on my face, just like you.

Then I felt his long ears.

He chuckled again.

Wilden: Yes, I do have big ears, too.

Director: So, what do you think.

Laurel: How about we talk about this in the other room.

Barley: Mom, can I stay in here with him?

Wilden: Sure. Get to know him, too.

While they were talking in the other room, the younger elf came close to me.

"Hi, your name is Wilbur, right?"

I nodded "yes".

"My name is Barley."

I stuttered trying to pronounce his name.

"Baw-wee."

He giggled.

"Barley."

"Bawey"

"Ok. Bar."

"Baw."

"With an R. Say R."

"R".

"Then Lee."

"Wee."

"Lee."

"Lee."

"Ok. Bar-lee."

"Barry."

He giggled again.

"It's okay. We can work on it if you wanna come with us."

I gave him a questioning look.

"Me...with...you?"

I question, gesturing to myself.

Barley: Yeah. If you wanna. Hey are those Quests of Yore action figures? I have some of those. Can I play with you?

I nodded.

Meanwhile

Wilden's P.O.V.

Director: I really have to admit out of the adoption interviews we've had with Wilbur, I think he's taken a liking to you three. Especially with your son. So, I think we can talk about adoption.

I got really excited.

"That's great."

Director: I'm sorry. I just really want to give that little boy a home. He's been through a lot as you can imagine. The other families, he ran away from, probably because they remind him of the people who attacked his village.

Laurel: Aw. Poor guy.

Director: I think you look the least threatening because you look like the soldier who brought him here. In a way, he's looking at you as the one who saved his life.

After talking a while, we got the papers signed and we went back to see him playing with Barley.

Barley: Hey, Dad.

Wilden: Barley, good news. We got you a little brother.

Barley: Yes! You hear that, buddy?

Wilbur looked at us, intrigued.

Wilden: Welcome to our family, Wilbur Lightfoot.

Wilbur's P.O.V.

I was finally part of a family. But one thing was at the back of my mind.

"Can...we...bring...Sadalia?"

Director: Oh no, Wilbur. I'm sorry, but we can't do that.

I frowned.

"No."

Director: Wilbur. It's okay. Someone will adopt her.

I ran out the door.

"WILBUR!"

I ran out of the door into the playground, unable to accept it. The real reason I didn't want to leave was because I didn't want to leave my only friend.
