It was now Monday. Sunday wasn't too special for Ash and Misty, just some slight talking and Misty finding a funeral home to perform the service. However today was different. Today they picked out her casket and headstone.
A man by the name of Otto came to the door. He was selling them the coffin. Before they started, Misty pulled Ash aside real quick.
"What is it Mist?"
"Do you still have that handkerchief?"
"Uh yeah, why?"
"Just in case you get emotional."
"Thanks for the concern, but I'll be fine."
He then walked into the living room with Otto with Misty following behind.
"Alright Mr. Ketchum, we know this is a very hard time for you, and we'll like to ease that by giving your mother a comfortable place to rest."
"Uh, thanks."
"Now, here are a selection of our best coffins."
He showed them pamphlets of 5 different caskets. The duo looked them over, then showed Pikachu and Mr. Mime. They didn't like any of them.
"Do you have anything else?"
"Of course. Here's our seasonal options, colored options, and 'fancy' ones."
Misty looked at the man with a sorta rage. She knew this man put on an act, and didn't really care much unless he sold. Surprising her, Ash looked at him the same. Besides that, the group looked at the pamphlets, and all agreed on one.
"We'll take this one." It was a dark blue one with brown streaks, and was made of wood.
"Great choice. That will come out to be $15,000."
"Are you crazy!? That's too overpriced!"
"Well, don't you want your loved ones to lie peacefully for eternity? I mean what's a little money for the lost?"
"Well-"
"Cut the crap."
"Excuse me?"
"You don't care about what happened. You're pretty heartless actually. You're just in it for the sale, draining the bank accounts of people who are already in a tough time. The average funeral already costs $20,000."
"But sir, you are the pokemon master, you should have more than enough for this."
"I do, and even though I'm the pokemon master, I wouldn't want to waste a dime of my money on someone who's only here to get money. It's sick really, targeting people who have lost so much already. Now I would show you the door, but you already know where it is."
"B-but what about-"
"We'll get it from someone who actually cares about the people and not just the profits. Now leave."
Otto grabbed his pamphlets and left the house. Misty, Pikachu, and Mr. Mime looked at Ash.
"What? Oh yeah, sorry about that. It's just, he really rubbed me the wrong way."
"Don't be sorry Ash, I didn't like him either."
"Oh. Well, glad I wasn't the only one." Misty looked at him. "What?"
"You know Ash, you really have changed."
Ash looked at her. The last time she said that was...well since their fight.
"Is it for the good?"
"Yes Ash. I remember the last time I saw you, you said having a heart gets you nowhere."
Ash winced at that memory.
"Well now it looks like you've gotten yours back."
"Thanks Mist."
"Now, let's go get a headstone."
"Quite the seque."
"Yeah, yeah, now c'mon mister pokemon master, we're burning daylight."
"Whatever you say Mist."
