As Chris watches her chest rise and fall as she sleeps, he can't help but think about how maybe one day they'll be together. He loves her, he truly does. But there's something in the back of his mind screaming at him 'no! Don't do it! You'll ruin everything!' And sure enough it scares him not to go through with it.
So instead he chooses to show her love, that even nights when they lie naked in his bed. He can almost believe that she's his, and he's hers. He can almost convince himself that this was enough. That using that one term wasn't necessary. That those 3 words he so badly wanted to say didn't mean anything.
He chose to ignore the way she looked at him. He ignored the sweet nothings she whispered to him while they made love. He ignored everything he said in return as it was a 'heat of the moment' type of thing. He also chose to ignore the hurt in her face as he got dressed as soon as they finished.
Chris wasn't stupid, he was just ignorant.
What they had right now was almost perfect. For him.
It suited his needs, his time. But not hers. And slowly, she'd come to realize he was never going to make her his. Chris knew this, once again he just ignored it like everything else in his life. If you can't see it, it's not there.
He couldn't help the jealousy that overwhelmed him whenever she was talking with another guy. Honestly, he even got pissed when she talked to Matt. After years of knowing y/n, he knew her better than she knew herself. He knew that Matt wasn't her type. But she also knew that her type changed depending on her mood and the person. If Chris didn't pull his shit together soon he was worried that his triplet brother would steal his girl.
Maybe one fucking day Chris will finally muster up the courage to ask her to be his. Maybe one fucking day he'll wake up in her bed and not have to worry about leaving her all alone. Maybe on day he'll finally telll her he loves Her. Cause he does.
Maybe that one day is soon.
