-Not Requested-
It was winter, a time to stay indoors and cuddle around the fire with loved ones, and while you wanted nothing more than to do that, you'd be spending this Christmas season alone.
It was fine, you'd spent the last 3 Christmases alone, lets go for four, why not. The snow was starting to fall now.
Of course you coincidentally had to go into work, it was the 21st, your last day at your boring corporate office, so at least today wasn't all drab.
Part of you liked the work, mainly because you knew that from the end of the day to the 2nd of January, you'd be alone, completely alone.
Your apartment was small, quaint, and that was just the way you liked it because it was all you really needed.
You were pretty low maintanance, a small Christmas tree sitting in the corner by the door, just left of your coatrack, a coatrack that only ever saw one coat.
It now saw none as you pried it from its hook, walking out of the door after zipping it up, another plus side to your apartment complex was no noisy neighbours.
Hardly any noise at all, sometimes you did wish for the occasional party at night, the stamping of feet from your upstairs neighbour, any sign you weren't completely alone when the lights turned off.
You walked through the drab halls with drab ceilings and drab carpets, standing in front of the drab metal doors of the elevator as you waited.
You waited a little longer than usual as it opened, and that's when you saw her. Though of course you didn't know her yet.
There wasn't a big moment, you could hardly see the bottom half of her face since it was heavily wrapped in a scarf.
She wore a deep shade of red you always kind of liked, you walked in and kept at a distance that was both far enough to not creep her out, but close enough to not make her think you were avoiding her.
She noticed you too, and as the elevator went down, since you were both going to the same floor, she decided to speak first.
"Are you new here?" She asked.
You didn't realise she was talking to you at first, and you had to clear your throat at first, it was the first time you'd spoken that day.
"Uh...no, no I've been here about 3 years" You nodded awkwardly. "What uh...about you?"
She shook her head, humming a little, she also wasn't used to talking, but definitely more experienced than you.
"About two years...its my second Christmas here" She smiled a little.
"Um...congrats" You chuckled quietly to yourself, she smiled as well.
"I've never seen you here before..." She admitted.
"Well I normally leave this time every day, come home pretty late, work stuff" You briefly informed.
"Ah...that must be why, I never get up this early" She giggled, it was pretty early for a winter morning.
"What's the occasion?" You inquired.
"Just doing some Christmas shopping, I won't be able to visit my family this Christmas but I can still get them stuff" The girl nodded.
"Well best of luck, hope you don't get trampled with all the shoppers this time of year" You wished her luck.
"Thanks..." She said, wanting to keep the conversation going. "What are you doing this early, you can't seriously have work this close to Christmas?"
