Fay Sisters
(Gunpowder)
Zero woke up, it was still very early because the sun was not yet rising. Minutes after the fire both went to the male dorm. Each building in the Academia consisted of several buildings. All three stories and same style. The dorms were long corridors with rooms facing each other on the upper floors. Inside, Zero and Raniel spent the rest of the night. To Zero's surprise, Raniel slept in the bed of Sub Lieutenant Harper. With his almost asleep look he saw Raniel with his magnifying glasses in front of the assassinated Sub Lieutenant's closet. He analyzed again and again each piece of clothing or private material that the deceased aeronaut owned.
- Did you sleep well boy?
- Yes, you didn't? I thought I heard you had a nightmare.
- I have many of them. - Admitted the intriguing Inspector who remained as an immovable statue in front of the closet - Did you knew this boy well?
- Yes, we flew together most of the time. He was a great aeronaut.
While moving the clothes Raniel was amazed by how mistreated the closet was behind the hanging uniforms. It was appreciated how this had been stabbed on several occasions. (Maybe signs of frustration or fury. Outside of that everything seems very organized. Very different from Zero's closet)
- Did he have enemies or a problem?
- Not that I know of, he was very sociable everyone got along with him
- I want you to remember the night of the murder. - He was beginning to question him returning to the bed of the deceased. He sat on it and stared at Zero. - I want you to transport yourself at that time as well as possible. How do you end up arriving at the scene?
- I was checking the state of the night guards, and then went to one room regarding a complaint, suddenly a groan was heard outside. Upon leaving the building I saw two female guards checking the area. It was then that we saw the body in one of the corners of the building.
- Tell me about the body. How was it?
- It was, - a small pause made him return that late evening - down.
- Were there blood stains? or any evidence that he crawled from one place to another?
- No I don't think so. I'm sure it all happened there.
- What did you do after?
- I told one of them to enter the building to sound the alarm, the other helped me turn the body. At that time we didn't know he was dead. I turned it over to verify what happened and when I saw that it was Harper I started to give him first aid, without success. It was when she started screaming. I just ran out of words.
Raniel just shook his head accepting that he heard the statement.
- No one went to the infirmary injured by a fight or the laundry to wash clothes with blood?
- Nothing sir, nobody saw or heard anything about this. In fact that was one of the first questions asked by Inspector Jarvet to the Coronel.
(The Count mentioned that his son was tall and strong. In order to kill someone with these characteristics, it could have been a surprise attack or two attackers, perhaps the same last night.)
- You were in charge of the guard that night and you saw nothing unusual?
- Nothing - he said embarrassed
- I am intrigued to know why the Inspector did not interview you.
- Two nights ago it was found floating on the banks gunpowder barrels. The Colonel ordered all Sub Lieutenants to patrol the skies in search of possible air smugglers. Inspector Jarvet said that my story was the same as that of the two cadets and did not interview me.
