Percy sank through the murky water, somehow his impact with the water hadn't hurt. He was falling slowly now, bubbles trickling up through his fingers. He settled on the river bottom soundlessly. A catfish the size of his stepfather lurched away into the gloom. Clouds of silt and disgusting garbage—beer bottles, old shoes, plastic bags—swirled up all around him.

At that point, Percy realized a few things: first, he had not been flattened into a pancake. He hadn't been barbecued. He was alive, which in his best judgement was good- Great even.

Second realization: He wasn't wet. He could feel the coolness of the water. He could see where the fire on his clothes had been quenched. But when he touched his own shirt, it felt perfectly dry.

He looked at the garbage floating by and snatched an old cigarette lighter.

No way.

He flicked the lighter. It sparked. A tiny flame appeared, right there at the bottom of the Mississippi. He was about to show Lyric when he looked around, his hair floating around him.

Third Realization: Lyra was gone.

Oh shit, I am so dead.

***

Lyric felt a great sense of Deja vu.

She looked around taking her surroundings, as she hit the ground with a soft thump, Percy wasn't there.

Fear gripped her. She began panicking different possibilities filled her head, what if he didn't survive the fall, what if he didn't end in the ocean rather splat onto the sidewalk. what if-

Lyra calm down.

He's safe right? I mean he is the son of Poseidon

She hoped he was alive, she couldn't bear to lose another friend.

Somehow, she could breathe under the water, she looked around and saw the strangest thing a school of fish.

Not your regular goldfish, a school of Piranhas

Dead Piranhas.

She stared at the skeleton fish, that was approaching her.

Well, this is it. She thought, but the fish didn't harm instead they said excitedly.

Don't worry mistress we'll help you!

Mistress?

She turned around, in case they had mistaken her for someone else but the dead fishes stared at her.

"Oh uhm, how kind but how will you help?"

The skeleton fishes made a whistling sound and a shark came, yes a dead shark welcome to the party.  She got on top of the shark holding on to is fin.

Where to my lady?

Lyric almost shrieked hearing the shark's deep voice in her head, umm the surface.
