As Elle got close to the headteacher's office door Elle took a deep breath. She had never been so scared to open a door before. She knew it was daft but Elle really couldn't bear to see the look on Grace's face. Elle heard a door close behind her and knew it would be Eddie following her in and she felt a supportive hand on her shoulder as her hand reached shakily for the metal door handle.
"Go on. We're all here for you. Both of you." Eddie whispered as he took a step back allowing Elle to have her own space and he watched nervously as she slowly opened the door, the worried faces of Rachel and Kim appeared, the tear stained face of Grace sat in a chair by the table.
As Elle entered the room she was heard silence and a tear that had filled the room, the atmosphere made the room feel very tense and awkward and she really didn't like it. She had no idea if she should speak first and explain it all before anyone had the chance to say anything or whether she should wait and see what Grace has to say, after all it was Grace who had come to talk to her.
Making her way over to the table to sit down Elle could feel her twin's eyes watching her move across the room, still no one uttering a single breath. It wasn't until she sat down Elle that someone needed to say something.
"E, I just want to start to say I'm really sorry about before. I didn't mean any of it. I was just angry." Grace says quietly as she looked at her twin sister. She just got caught up in the heat of the moment and stopped thinking about what she was saying.
"Gracie. I'm sorry too. I should have been straight with you from the start rather than trying to hide this things from you.
I should have known that you would be able to see right through me sad mum." Elle says, a small grin spreading across both of the twins faces as they realise how well they know each other.
" All our life's we've been connecting in attached at the hip like mum says but what I'm about to tell you is that we're not gonna be attached now.
I hope you'll help me to sort it but you don't have to deal with it if it's too hard for you.
"So what's been going on with you then?" Grace asked worryingly as she turned in her chair to fully face her younger twin sister.
"I don't know how to tell you this, be trying to think of ways all day but none of them seen right, but I would rather tell you when Mum isn't about as you know what she can be like." Elle explained but she could tell that
"Well, when I said I was at the dentists this morning I wasn't. I was at the hospital getting some results.
They show that I...I...I have..." Elle stuttered but she just couldn't get the words out of her mouth. She felt like she had lost the power of speech and was unable to produce the sound that she wanted. She looked at Grace has a really concerned face as she wants to know what Elle had, tears rising in her eyes.
"Have what Elle?" Grace asks
"I have..." Elle started again but it was no use, she just couldn't bring herself to do it. Elle looked round the room and she watched as miss Campbell stepped forward to tell Grace instead of Elle who was struggling to speak.
"Grace, Elle has been told by the doctor today that she has got cancer." Miss Campbell says. Then she quickly goes to go over to Grace to support her. Grace starts to throwing out her tears staying on her chair.
"Grace, say something. Please." Elle sobbs as she looked at the state her sister.
"What how you're a child!" Grace says whispering shocked by the words.
Grace then stands up nearly falling to her knees then hugging her younger twin sister tightly as if never wanting to let go.
The two twins sit together with tears in their lives at their school office together.
All Grace secretly wants to know is will her sister survive.
