[A/N: I don't know why this was so fun to write. :)]

Gisela's POV

I walked away from the building, spinning my new Gethen themed Imparter-pop-socket in between my fingers. But I could barely notice it. My mind was still reeling with the events of the night before.

Umber had been too shocked–and probably angry–to say much more than a "WHAT?!" when I told her about the job offer I had accepted. But I knew that the backlash would soon be coming. When it came to revenge, Umber found a way to top herself every time.

After taking a moment to steel myself, I knocked on Umber's office door.

I heard a "come in" from inside, so I opened the door and poked my head in. Umber was at her desk, hunched over a large stack of papers.

Umber looked up and scowled coldly. "Oh. It's you."

I chucked awkwardly, not quite sure what to say.

"I didn't think you'd have the nerve to come here after last night. I told you not to take the job, did I not? [A/N: Like Vespera!] And you undermined me." I found myself surprised at how calm she was. But the coldness in her voice spoke for itself. I was in for it.

Umber gave me one more glare before she looked back down at her papers again and continued filling them out.

"I was hoping you would be forgiving." I tried to hide the fear in my voice.

"I thought you knew I wasn't one to forgive and forget. I assumed you knew you were fired."

I cringed. "Fired?"

Umber nodded, crossing the room and staring at her bookshelf. "Cassius let me in on your little secret. And I saw how you gazed at him during that game show on TV. I know you're into Gethen." [A/N: When I was looking for other ways to say "like someone", one of the synonyms was "look on with favor." My sister and I laughed so hard when we saw that.]

"What? NO!" I defended, but even I could tell that it was tentative. Umber turned back to face me, both sadness and resolve in her eyes.

"Leave, Gisela. And I don't want to see you back here again."

Stunned, I walked out the door and left the building in a daze. I was fired? How could I be fired?

I was just trying to help Umber by taking that job at News with the Neverseen! I did not take it to get closer to Gethen at all! She and Cassius had misevaluated the situation. And now I was paying for it. I was half-tempted to stalk back into the building and demand my position back. But I knew that wouldn't go over well. So I forced my legs to carry me far away from the building.

Gethen's POV

I watched from the window [A/N: Yeah, don't ask me why he's watching her through the window in the first place XD] as Gisela walked down the street in a daze.. Wondering where she was coming from, I craned my head as far as I could. But there was no way to tell what building she had come from. Curious, I pulled out my Imparter.

"Show me Gisela Sencen." I said into it. I watched as Gisela reached into her pocket, pulled out her Imparter, glanced at it for a second, and immediately put it back in her pocket again. Why would she ignore my call? Was she mad at me? Was something wrong?

I was about to call her again when Fintan burst into the room.

"What are you doing, Gethen?" He asked as I attempted to hide the fact that I wasn't working. "Didn't I tell you to work on our website's FAQ?"

"I-I-I was!" I lied badly.

"Clearly," Fintan said, his voice thick with sarcasm. "You'd better get on it, Gethen. There are plenty of people who'd dream to do what you do for your career. And I know how you'd hate to be separated from Gisela. If I were you, I'd get working." With a wink, he left and shut the door behind him. I sat down, unable to shut my jaw. Did Fintan just wink at me?

Gisela's POV

Still in shock from the night before, I slowly walked into News with the Neverseen's building. Gethen greeted me the second I arrived.

"Hello, Gisela. Ready for another day?" He asked with a smile.

I managed a nod. "Absolutely."

So, Gethen led me to the elevator and up to the offices.

While the elevator (very slowly) rose, Gethen attempted to make small talk.

"Did you do anything interesting after work yesterday?" He asked. But there was a curiosity in his eyes that made me wonder if he suspected where I had gone.

Not about to give him any clues to the fact that I used to spy on him for Umber, I settled with a quick head shake. "Not really. Why?"

"I was just wondering why you wouldn't take my Imparter call." He stepped closer, and his voice dropped. "Is there anything you'd like to tell me?"

I gulped, suddenly finding it hard to breathe. I opened my mouth to speak, but my brain wasn't working.

I finally managed to squeak out an, "I don't think so," then immediately wanted to slap my face. I don't think so? Who even says that?!

Gethen said nothing. He leaned closer. My heart raced. Just when I was sure he was about to kiss me, the door swung open and Fintan came charging in. I immediately tried to bury my disappointment.

Gethen jumped away. "Fintan! Funny seeing you here."

Fintan stared at me, then Gethen. I was sure my cheeks couldn't get any more red. Thankfully, Fintan didn't say anything.

Gethen backed away even more. "I... got to go. Gisela, Fintan: nice seeing you!" With that, he turned and fled.

[A/N: Sorry about this XD]
