After their morning round in the shower, they relaxed for some time on bed, until both of their stomachs were grumbling loudly. She was now watching him work around the stove, flipping some pancakes in the pan. In the kitchen there was small island with a sink, and a bar-seating area with high barstools, which she was currently sitting on. She was wearing one of his big navy-blue t-shirts and boxershorts.

Facing the island there was a long counter, with a big fridge on the right side and a stove in the middle. The kitchen itself wasn't extremely spacey, it was mostly practical, he lived alone and didn't find it necessary to have a big family kitchen. But it held all necessities he needed.

Her feet and legs were bare, she was dangling them back and forth on the stool, waiting impatiently for him to finish, she had worked up quite an appetite. He finally put down a plate in front of her, on the plate a stack of three pancakes topped with strawberries and icing sugar, giving her a small kiss on the lips.

'There you go, madam.' he let out a small chuckle when she dived immediately in to it. He grabbed his own plate and sat down next to her, cutting the pancake in pieces before taking a small bite.

She had her mouth full when she told him; 'You can make these any morning for me, Der. That would be a way to start the day..'

'I thought you wanted that particular exercise every morning, at least that was what you told me earlier this morning. But we can start with pancakes and then move on to the cardiovascular activities...' he laughed out loud.

'Haha, I don't think I can move after eating this. First, I have to exploit.' she said patting her stomach.

'If I didn't know you any better, I would think you were starving, the way you fret that inside your tiny mouth was mesmerizing.' he nudged her, trying to get her to respond.

Before she could, there was a knock on his door. 'Do you expect anybody?' she asked.

'No..' he answered. 'Will be right back okay.' he said walking to the door, opening it slightly to see his mother standing there. He froze, he didn't know how to react, suddenly the realisation hit him, he had agreed to meet with his mom to go to the farmer's market. They would go shopping for a Christmas tree for in his apartment, it was a yearly thing, it made his mom happy and he couldn't deny her anything. He was a momma's boy after all. He had totally forgotten about it, last week he had been so busy with Meredith. Not that they had actually hung out a lot, but just the prospect of being with her had held his mind occupied.

'Are you going to open the door, or are you going to let you me stand in the hallway the rest of the day?' she urged him to open the door. When she saw him standing there in only his boxershorts, she knew something was up, her son wouldn't walk around like that normally. He was an early bird, ever since he was a little boy, up before anyone else in the house. Clothed and ready to go at eight, he was a creature of habit, and this wasn't habitually for him.

'Let's get inside.' he said, giving her a small hug and kiss on her head. He knew he had fucked up when he walked in to the kitchen with his mom, Meredith was still sitting on the barstool, scrolling down on her phone drinking her coffee, unaware of the situation.

'Oh, hi Meredith, dear. I didn't expect you here this early.' his mother said surprised.

Meredith turned around quickly, too quickly. Spilling hot coffee over the mug, down on her hand. 'Shit.' she grumbled. Oh, how she could kill him right now, the bastard.

'Hi Mrs. Shepherd. It's good to see you.' she said quickly, trying to regain posture. She felt exposed, she was sitting in his goddamned kitchen, only wearing his stupid boxers and t-shirt, she didn't have a bra on, her whole outfit was screaming - yes, we had the most incredible sex last night, and again this morning-. Not something you would want the mother of your conquest to see, she wasn't some simple one-night-stand he had picked up in the bar the night before, who he would never see again. She was his best friend, she had met his mother multiple times before, and she would see his mother multiple times after today.

'Meredith stayed over last night.' Derek said. 'She had too much to drink and I asked her to stay. I didn't want her driving her car. She uh - I slept on the couch.' he clarified, trying to ease the tensed situation.

'Ah, yes. I figured something like that.' his mom said easy. 'And Meredith, how many times do I have to tell you to just call me Caroline.' she smiled sweetly to the girl in front of her.

'Yes, I will do Mrs. Sheph - I  mean Caroline. I think I will just go now, leave you be. Do what you do.' Meredith said, walking to grab her purse of the table and moving to the door of his apartment.

'Don't you think it is a bit cold to be leaving clothed like that dear?' Caroline asked.

'Crap.' Meredith muttered under her breath, this could only happen to her. 'You are right, I will change first.' turning around walking to his bedroom.

Within minutes she was dressed and out of the door. Leaving behind a stunned Derek, he knew he had screwed up big time the moment he saw his mother standing in the doorway. He didn't want his mother to find out this way, he didn't want her to find out at all. He wanted to keep Meredith save and private, he didn't want any prying eyes from his family, and maybe if it all turned out the way he wanted to.. No, he had to stop thinking like that, she wasn't looking for something serious. She just saw him as her friend, she just wanted to have a good time. Nothing more than that, he was just there to help her regain confidence and teach her a few tricks. So, she could use them on the guy after him, he thought bitterly.

'You know you should be careful with her Derek; she isn't just another notch on your bedpost. She is sweet and caring, and she deserves to be treated that way.' Caroline said sternly.

'I know Mom.' Derek answered defeated. She meant too much for him to mess with her feelings, he hadn't anticipated for his mom to show up. He didn't want her to think she was just a good lay, she was a good lay, but it was more than that. He cared for her; he loved her as his best friend. He knew she had endured more than most, she was insecure and hurt and he had just added another blow to her already low self-esteem. Making it seem like she was nothing more than a quick fuck on a Saturday evening, well done Derek..

'Think carefully before you proceed, with whatever it is you two are doing. Now go and change in to something decent.' she shook her head. 'Walking around in your underwear around your mom is cute when you are four Derek, not when you're thirty-five.'
