*El's POV (Nightmare/Memory)*
I smile as Eli and I walk across the pier.
We reach the waterfall not far from the pier.
I smirk as I walk over to rocks.
"El..." Eli warns
"Come on Eli, when have I ever fallen off? And every time you worry." I say looking over at him, with a knowing look.
"El come on it's not safe." He say, his eyebrows furrowed, something he does when he is worried.
"Yea yea." I roll my eyes and keep walking on the rocks.
I can see why Elliot would be worried.
I mean, it is pretty slippery.
And high... but I've done this many times.
I'm safe...right?
"El, you're shaking, come back. It's really not safe."
Just as those words leave his mouth...
I fall.
My ankle twists as I try to take a step back and I fall...
I scream and see Eli's panicked face.
I fall for a bit but feel a force pulling me up.
Gasping, I realize it's just Elliot using his powers.
He puts my on solid ground and collapses.
"Eli!" I say, I get up and kneel next to him.
"Are you ok?" He asks me.
I scoff
"You're the one who just collapsed." I say
He chuckles, "I'm fine, let's go to the tree, wanna race."
He says dusting off his pants.
Worried I nod.
"Three, two- HEY! NO CHEATING!" He yells after me
I laugh running.
After a few minutes, I reach the top of the hill and holding the tree for support.
"HAHA I BEAT YOU!" I say turning to see an exhausted Elliot catching his breath at the bottom of the hill.
He shakes his head.
"You cheated! It doesn't count! No Eggos for you Ellie!" He says calling me his nickname.
I laugh.
And then...
I hear a van pull up.
Confused I look at it Drive onto the grass and right next to Eli.
Panic flashes through his eyes as he looks at me and tries to run to me.
I freeze.
'What's happening?'
"RUN! RUN EL!" He yells
Two grown men get out off the van and grab my brother.
He screams.
He pulls.
He Punches.
I'm frozen.
I'm scared.
I'm crying.
"EL RUN!" He yells as they pull him into the van and the men look at me.
Shaking my head with tears running down my face...
I run...
And run...
And run...
When I stop, I must be at least five miles away from our tree.
I fall to my knees and scream.
I cry.
~In the Present, Awake~
I gasp for air.
"Eli..." I whimper.
I cry all night, my brain racing.
'It's all my fault.'
'I'm the reason he was too weak to fight.'
'It should've been me!'
'He should've let me fall.'
And then that other voice.
'You were 13'
'He wouldn't have let you fall'
'He loved you'
'You were young...it wasn't you fault.'
And the voices in my head were fighting again
'It was your fault.'
'No it wasn't.'
'You're why he was weak.'
'You were 13 and he loved you and saved you.'
'You should have saved him.'
'You were scared.'
I scream and cry.
I hear the door open, I look up.
"El...oh El." Will says coming into my room and hugging me.
I cry into his shirt.
